A very delicate and interesting tea. The first stepping produced a roasted quality, reminding me of a hoji-cha style, which mellowed to a gentle sweetness in subsequent resteeps. Therewas a presence of mild tannins throughout, which surprised me because I am so used to tannins fading after the first steeping. Overall a decent tea, would have liked a little more fullness in the body and flavors. 6.5/10

An earthy tea, greeting with a light pucker in the front and relaxing into a woodsy finish. Some trace notes of bitter chocolate deep in the undertones adds subtle body. Second steeping reveals a creamy texture and sweeter, fuller body. An enjoyable path to explore as the tea develops over multiple steeps. 7.5/10

A lovely tea with a strange brewing ratio. I used too much water on the first steeping, failing I’ve again to notice the drastic change in water required from usual with the Select packets. With the amount of water adjusted for the second steeping, mellow notes of honey and peach came forth, with a mossy tang rounding out the body. A very well balanced tea, but I was surprised I couldn’t get more flavor out if the giant buds. 7/10

An enjoyable, subtly flavored tea, with light honey notes over a gentle, malty body. Beautiful aroma rounded out the tasting experience. I was noticing a distinct lightness of flavor, but I made two faults: I did not notice the drastic change in the amount of water required versus other Select teas, and so when I first made it in my usual teapot the flavor was seriously washed out. I also brought this tea up to an altitude of 7600 ft to enjoy, and woke the mountain scenery enhanced the experience, I do believe the flavor was adversely affected. Would definitely try again at sea level.

drank Soba Cha Deep Roast by Steepster

A lovely, warming, soothing evening tea. This tisane has a robust nutty flavor that reminds me strongly of genmai cha. I was not expecting a deep flavor profile because the tea itself was so light, but I very much enjoyed the full-bodied cup. I felt nourished and calmed after enjoying this tea, and it is the first tea from Select that I am seeking out to purchase. 9/10, will drink again.

If you’re looking to find it for a good price, check your healthfood store for roasted buckwheat/kasha. Mine sells it for $3.65 a pound! You may find a deal as well :)

A very warm and cozy tea, like a fuzzy blanket or a hug in a cup. The subtle sweetness in the finish complements the roasted and malty quality of the tea. A touch of nuttiness rounds out the well-bodied flavor. Even though I have never had a tea from Laos, I find this tea in a way very familiar, as if I have already enjoyed it before. 9/10, a wonderfully enjoyable tea for colder days.

An excellent green tea with the depth and complexity of a black or oolong tea. I am a big fan of the genmaicha style of greens and found this to have a similar palate of toasty, rice-like flavor which was supported by some notes of chocolate in the undertones. A fine tea, one I found very enjoyable, and look forward to drinking again. 9/10

drank Imperial Keemun by Steepster

I would like to first admit that I have only started to familiarize myself with Keemun teas in the past month, so this is a new style for me and I haven’t decided if I like it yet. The other Keemun teas that I have tasted were all pleasant , one-note brews that I enjoyed, but I prefer slightly more complex teas with more depth and breadth of flavor. This Keemun was a nice tea, with some bitter chocolate notes and a faintly woody aroma, but that was it for me. A pleasant tea, but not one I would go to extreme lengths to find. 7/10

drank Jasmine Pearls by Steepster

An enjoyable, light, warm weather tea with delicate flavoring. I am not usually a fan of jasmine green teas because they can be overwhelmingly floral and perfume-y, but the jasmine was only a brief forward note that dissolved quickly into a slightly sweet citrus flavor. I was pleased with this tea and am excited to drink it again. 8/10

First taste of caramel dissolves quickly into bold tannins. At first I could barely taste anything but tannins, but as it cools I am able to find traces of citrus and a teeny bitfof spice. Not terribly jazzed about this one; it’s fine if you’re liking for a warm, full-bodied tea, but it was lacking some complexity and depth of flavor for me. 6.5/10
