3294 Tasting Notes

It might seem like I’m playing favorites with WP this weekend, & well…I guess I am, LOL.
That’s because I recently got a box of teas from there, & most of them are samples that I want to split with Sil. Also, our shared order from YS came this week, & I want to finish all the WP samples, so I can include them in her box. Finally, I’m leaving for FL on thurs to visit my mom & dad for 5 days, so I’m hoping to mail Sil’s box off before I leave.
Of course, I could wait until I get back…we’ll see. Anyway, I brought the WP box with me to Tony’s for the weekend, so that’s what I’m drinking.

Per my usual sunday morning routine, I made an awesome pancake breakfast for Tony & I, with bacon, fried apples, & a drizzle of maple. This tea was the obvious choice to go with the pancakes! I used 1 TB, & enjoyed the first cup straight, & the 2nd steep with a little maple. I might as well try for a third steep, but I’ll take that one plain.

Now we’re watching cardinals baseball in our PJs.

MzPriss

My very favorite.

Terri HarpLady

I have to admit, this is really the best vanilla tea out there IMO

scribbles

I’m in my pj’s listening to the Jays. Yay for pj/b.ball sunday!

MzPriss

You are really going to adore the Coca Amore – it came very very close for me to the bestness of GO, but for me GO edges it out slightly. LTF (LovelyTeaFairy) might have a little different take than I do, but this is my favorite blend.

SarsyPie

I dropped by to say that this tea is amazeballs!

Terri HarpLady

It might be awhile before I can afford to sample that one, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.

Terri HarpLady

did I mention that I still have a minty fresh sensation in my mouth & sinuses?

MzPriss

Never know what might show up in the mail….

Sil

Terri – if you haven’t had GO, whenever i place my first WP order in uh august… i can pick some of that up heh

Terri HarpLady

Sil – I was planning to include some in your sample box :)

Sil

Yeah I’m not following things well today…. Totally all over the place… Didn’t want to have to work this weekend and what am I doing at 8-10pm my birthday? Working.

Terri HarpLady

Today’s your birthday?? HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
sorry you have to work though…it figures…;p

Sil

..at least it was only 2 hours at the end of the day while ian returned the car rental.

boychik

Happy Birthday Sil!

MzPriss

Happy (belated) birthday Sil!!

OK, first off, I don’t recommend spearmint first thing in the morning if you are planning to sample something new afterwards, LOL. Here I am an hour later, & my mouth is still minty fresh, which feels good, but interfered somewhat with the tasting of this tea.

Also, I followed the instructions on the packet, using 1/2 TB, & I really wish I’d just gone with a whole TB, cuz I do tend to like my teas on the strong end of the spectrum, but I want to send the other half to my tea sister Sil, & I’m trying to get better at following instructions in general.

Anyhoo, this is a tasty cup of pre-breakfast tea, though not particularly bold. Very light on the smoke, IMO, with bread notes, & milk chocolate made with that condensed canned milk. It’s nicely sweet, & I’ll have to get an oz so that I can give it a more fair review eventually.

TheTeaFairy

Lol, I’m really bad at following instructions…not only with tea, but with life in general it seems :-)

boychik

I felt the same, 1/2 tbsp is not enough for me.

MzPriss raises hand * I’m a heaper and steeper – I use more and go longer on most everything. I do try to mind the first time though.
Terri HarpLady

And here I am, hours later, & my lips & tongue are still feeling the spearmint…LOL

The moon is amazing tonight, huge & full. W have a nice clear sky here in St. Louis, with fireflies. There is no lake…no mist to hover over it, but this tea has a misty quality, & it evokes such things. To be honest, I didn’t think I would like this tea. I’m not really a big fan of spearmint, but as it turns out, it’s an interesting cup. Lightly smokey from the Keemun, I think I’d like more elderberry, & my mouth is minty fresh. I’m on the 2nd steep, & although the first steep was better, this one is still pretty interesting.

BTW, I used the entire 1 Tb sample.

MzPriss

I was surprised by how much I liked it because I thought the mint would not be appealing but this is good! I have elderberries – I may add some next time and see…

Terri HarpLady

My first cup of the day is the 3rd steeping of last nights leaves. This cup is mainly just minty fresh, for my mouth & my sinuses, like a whispered reminder of last nights full moon revelries. :)

MzPriss

I still have last night’s leaves as well. This would be pretty good cold as well. Thank you again for the moon party – ’twas brillig :D

Terri HarpLady

I think this tea could also be a cure for morning breath, LOL!
You’re welcome, & thanks for playing! ’Twas a mimzy good time!

This is sublime…simply sublime.
Picture this: It’s a really hot day (& it IS in St Louis). Hot & humid, & you’re literally dragging yourself across that field of dreams, because you know that if you just take that walk, there will be relief.

And so, finally, you arrive at the edge of the forest, & as soon as you duck into it’s shade, your entire day begins to unwind. Even in the heat of summer, the coolness of being beneath the canopy is all enveloping. The smell of layer upon layer of decomposing leaves rises to greet you, the humidity in the air immediately becomes cavelike. You walk until you reach a bubbling spring, you find a sizable patch of moss, & you lie down in that shady place, with the sounds of water, birds, & leaves gently rustling .
Heaven doesn’t always include a Harp.

MzPriss

Isn’t it pretty Terri?

MzPriss

We have moonrise very soon

Terri HarpLady

It is pretty, & I just realized I didn’t really say anything about what it TASTES like, but this is the best I could do, LOL.
I made it through 2 steeps, & when I went back to try for a 3rd, I was disappointed to discover that Tony, in a kitchen cleaning frenzy, had dumped my steeper…ackckckckck….

MzPriss

OMG. Tony might need a spank.

SarsyPie

I am chomping at the bit! All my tea friends keep reviewing teas that I have just ordered and are on the way! I can’t wait to try this one. :)

TheTeaFairy

Love this review terri…

I’m in a better mood now, just like that. I would like to credit this tea, at least in part, for my mood elevation. I have known for awhile that Raw puerh teas seem to improve my outlook & clarify my thinking, & so there you have it!

Just for the record, I didn’t give this tea the usual gongfu treatment. Instead I put a TB in my Traveler Zita cup, added hot water, & carried it with me last night, getting refills wherever I could. Admittedly, the first cup or 2 was rather potent, but it revved me up nicely for the gig! So just now I gave to leaves a hot rinse to refresh them, & I’m drinking from them again. A little tart & tangy at first, but by now I’m drinking a light plum drink with a sweet taste & a very smooth body. I’m looking forward to a gongfu session, which I’m sure will yield a much better review as well.

TheTeaFairy

Sheng is positive energy…

Terri HarpLady

Definitely!

drank Hibiscus Berry by Runa
3294 tasting notes

Yesterday evening I stopped by ‘Traveling Tea’ shop in Maplewood before I started playing. This is the same place where I get the much adored & coveted pumpkin ginger tea that Sil & I love SO MUCH. I talked to Kateri (the owner) about getting more of that this fall, even offering to roast as many pumpkins as she needs to guarantee an ample supply for the winter. Here’s her blog – http://www.traveling-tea.com

So while we were chatting, she offered me samples of various things, including a Vanilla Oolong that was nice, & this cold drink. She actually opened a fresh bottle to offer me a little taste, and it was tasty, so I bought the rest of the bottle from her. Unlike some overly tart hibiscus drinks, this one has just enough of that herb to lift the flavor up. I haven’t drank much guayusa, so I don’t really have much to say about it, but this was a pleasant cold drink to enjoy while I was playing my first set, kind of light, kind of sweet, & gratefully cold!

Marzipan

Pumpkin ginger sounds lovely.

SarsyPie

Pumpkin Ginger!!!! That sounds like an amazing combo. Another tea for my wishlist!

Megan

Ohh I’ve seen them at the farmers markets. I didn’t realize they had an actual store front.

Terri HarpLady

Yup, Megan, just 5 minutes from my house in Maplewood. You can stop by there when you come over for tea ;)
It’s on Sutton, just south of Manchester in the first block on your right.

I’ve bitched about making tea at Tony’s before, & I might as well admit that I’m a grumpus today, although I’m trying to get over it. Anyway, I took the kettle off the heat before it reached boiling, & even let it sit for a minute before I steeped my tea, but for some reason this cup came out incredibly bitter. That pisses me off, but I’m sure it’s not the tea’s fault, cuz I enjoyed it before. Sorry for the crappy review, Stacy.

MzPriss

I’m sorry Tony has crap water :(

Terri HarpLady

I don’t know if it’s his water, or just me, lol

I’m recuperating from a 5 hour gig last night. (Just for the record, WTF is up with auto correct these days? It just tried to turn recuperating into * recto opera* . Seriously! )
A 5 hour gig is a very long gig, for a harpist anyway. It was a fun gig, mostly Jazz & Originals, & I got to really crank up the volume on my Electric Harp. Maplewood, where I live, is the first suburb west of St Louis city, & this is our big annual event, a huge art show, with one of the main streets blocked off, music everywhere, food, belly dancers, hula hopers, all kinds of art on display, all kinds of artists in the act of whatever art they do. They call it Let Them Eat Art because the event is loosely based on Bastille Day, with crazy contests like The Marie Antoinette hairdo contest (think huge tall crazy white wigs), dog contests, etc.

Lots of fun for the entire family, & I’m sure there will be lots of photos too, cuz I think they have a photo contest as well.

Regarding this tea: it’s still good tea, but not the same as the original zhu rong I fell in love with.

MzPriss

Gigglesnorting HARD about recto opera!

MzPriss

Terri – what time are we drinking Moonrise tea?

Terri HarpLady

Good question! I think we are all on different time zones. I’m Central…

Terri HarpLady

The moonrise is at 8:30 tonight in St. Louis.
http://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/usa/st-louis
You can use this site to find out your moonrise time.
I’m thinking we should each drink it as our moon is rising? :)

MzPriss

I’m Central

MzPriss

(but am still laughing about recto opera because I have the sense of humor of a 14 year old boy)

MzPriss

Sunset is 8:35 here and moonrise is at 8:46 Central Daylight Time

OMGsrsly

I’m kind of curious as to what a recto opera might be… :)

Terri HarpLady

OMGsrsly, I thought about that… I came up with a scenario that would be SNL skit, no actual singing, just a lot of very loud farting & sub-titles?

Priss…you’ll like this https://www.facebook.com/Rock101Van/photos/a.380578777807.159246.91251252807/10152356768247808/?type=1&theater

I’ve been laughing to tears over it for days. I can’t get it out of my mind, & every time I smile Tony says, “You’re thinking of that damn dog thing again, aren’t you”

MzPriss

OMG OMG I snorted my NST right up my nose!! For real LOLing. Those could have been my dogs saying that. ahahahahahahaha!

OMGsrsly

Haha. Good one, Terri. :D

Terri HarpLady

I don’t even have to look at it to laugh, those dogs smiling faces are ingrained in my mind forever.

MzPriss

And they have clothes!!! I’m still giggling

Terri HarpLady

As if that’s not enough, Tony turns to me every now & then out of the blue & says, “Shut up, Mike” hahaha

I crawled into the bathtub with this & one other tea around noon for a nice hot soak. This is such a lovely dessert like treat, especially with a drizzle of maple syrup stirred in.

MzPriss

Terri-style. And FoxyRoxy style as well….

SarsyPie

This post has so much awesome, I can barely stand it!

1. This tea wins the tea name of the week award. Foxy Roxy? Love it.
2. Next, you took a bath at noon and had a soak and a cuppa. I think it’s genius.
3. You drank it Terri-Style, which seems like a perfect fit for this tea.

You clearly know how to start the weekend off right. I’m impressed! :)

TheTeaFairy

Lol, this is my favourite banana tea! And FoxyRoxy, well…I guess it is kind of foxy, isn’t it? :-)

MzPriss

It is Foxy in the extreme Foxy way

Tony became a gramps last night! His daughter & her wife had their first baby, a little boy, & of course, he is adorable!

On another note, Leif (my son, age 21) & I made an awesome breakfast frittata this morning, & I enjoyed my half with a pot of 1910, the quintessential English Breakfast. Next up: Bubble Bath.

Ysaurella

Congrats Tony !

Sil

WOOHOO!! grats to Tony!

scribbles

Congrats to Tony!

caile

Congrats! :)

OMGsrsly

Congratulations to Tony (and his daughter’s family!). :)

MzPriss

Awwwww PapaTony. Congratulations! And the bubble bath sounds like a perfect idea.

mrmopar

Cigars please all around….;)

Terri HarpLady

:)
Thanks everyone! He’s feeling pretty proud

Profile

Bio

I’m so excited to have found this community! I’m a self-employed Harpist (acoustic & electric – Originals, Classical, Rock, Jazz, etc) & Singer/Songwriter. My days & nights revolve around teaching at home, playing gigs, gardening,& fixing awesome food to eat. My schedule is different everyday, but I just go with the flow, & I sip a lot of tea!

My love of Tea began with Herbals back in the 70’s. One of my favorites was a licorice blend from House of Hezekiah, an old tea shop in Kansas City. There was also a tea with mint, rose petals, chamomile, etc called Nuclear Casual Tea.
In the 80’s I gave up caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, (& a few illicit substances…), and brewed medicinal blends & tinctures to support 4 pregnancies (all children born at home). In the 90’s my love affair with green teas began when I discovered ‘The Republic of Tea’. Their beautiful teas & packaging inspired my original song, “TeaMind”, from my CD “Zen Breakfast”. If you’d like to hear the song for free, drop by my website.

In general, I drink my teas straight, but occasionally I add a pinch of Stevia & maybe some coconut or almond milk (I’m allergic to dairy, gluten, & various other things & avoid most sweets.)

I’ve explored a variety of teas:
Whites tend to be a little bland…sorry
Oolongs – wonderfully sensual
Roobios – I’m not a fan in general
Puehr – a fairly new direction for me
I’m not a huge fan of flavored teas, but I do make exceptions, & I’ll try just about anything once.

And Black Tea, Oh how I love thee!!
I am on a quest for the most wonderful breakfast cup! I will find you, my Love!
