One of our Artisan Reserve oolong teas, a line of small batch handmade teas from a craft handed down over generations. Hand selected for having all the hallmark qualities of the highest grades with noteable personality accents.
Oriental Beauty Oolong Tea is an oolong tea also known as Bai Hao Oolong or Champagne Formosa. The name Bai Hao means white tip and refers to the small tender white buds that are picked along with the top two leaves.
We have managed to procure a batch of the finest Eastern Beauty we have ever tasted. It has all the hallmarks of a legendary Oriental Beauty, the floral sweetness and lingering notes of berry, but also has a deep earthy richness that is often not found in a Bai Hao.
This batch has a depth and richness we have never come across when cupping this type of tea. It certainly has all the woodsy and earthy and complex fruit notes that you would expect with a quality bai hao oolong. However, this batch, from our friend’s small farm in Huang Shan, China, is out of this world. Deep, deep flaovr and accompanying mouthfeel. Brothy without being heavy. Imminently satisfying with a nourishing quality.
60-70% fermentation.
We love this tea for its depth of personality and ability to handle long steep times. A little history, the origin of this name dates back to the early 20th century when a British tea merchant presented a sample of this tea to Queen Elizabeth II. From there, the Queen named this tea as Oriental Beauty. Organically grown, IMO certified.

Thank you to Ellen for sending me this. First trying this I must say that I didn’t care for it, and it tasted like clorinated water. However I’m trying it again at the office where we have a filtered hot water dispenser. The leaves themselves smell floral and sweet. This is my first formosa type oolong. First and second cup strong floral flavor like Ti Kuan Yins I have tried. Maybe a little perfumey. Overall not a bad Oolong, but looking at the price for it on the website. I don’t think I would order this one for regular drinking.

Perhaps they had a bad batch that they went and sold anyway. This was not a cheap tea. I would not have sold this to my customers.
Second time tasting this tea now, in my tea class. I’m starting to think this particular tea might be a bit of an acquired taste. I like it a lot better this time around than I did last time. I didn’t feel the same cooling sensation but the bitter aftertaste is significantly less noticeable. Not entirely sure how my classmate prepared it, but I imagine she must have done something different than the last time I tried it since it tasted so much better. Still has the same mildly chocolately smell that I love!

This sample from Zhi tea looks pretty good so far. The leaves don’t really have a strong smell that green oolongs have. Instead, it smells like a black tea!
First sip: A little watery & not too strong, still tastes like an oolong _
Smelling the teapot: melted chocolate!!! oh man can’t wait for more infusions
Subsequent tasting: It actually tastes a lot like a black tea, but the aftertaste is more oolong-y. Very interesting. This is a nice and relaxing tea, I like it better than other black teas I’ve had (though honestly I probably have not had the best)
This is just a good tea.
