From Zhena's Gypsy Tea

Paradise Found Tea

The bold and concentrated character of this lush green tea lends itself well to the full notes of cardamom, ginger and clove. The sweet hint of tropical coconut fragrantly fills the cup, offering an inviting taste of paradise to savor from any spot on the map. Delicious with a splash of milk. A bright and flavorful steep inspired by the tropical Kerala coast in the south of India.

3-5 minutes recommended steep time.

Perhaps I steeped this a bit too long, because I’m getting little of it. I can tell it’s a green, I can kinda taste coconut in it, however there’s zero chai anything. It actually tasted a lot like the Marani I just had, so much so that I had to look for a second to make sure.. maybe I got them mixed up? No, I doubt it .

A note to start – Do not think of this tea as a normal chai, it is not a normal a chai, it is a lighter green tea based chai that is delightful in it’s own right.

Steeping the tea – This tea smells wonderful! My entire bedroom smells like sweet spiced tea. It’s amazing.

Preparation – A little bit of steamed milk and some honey.

First sip – Sweet, spicy, citrusy. The honey really goes well with this tea, it accents the spiced flavor but doesn’t add the raw sweetness the sugar does.

This tea is wonderful, it’s complex and spicy with a touch of brightness from the green tea. Unlike a black tea based chai it is light and citrusy and doesn’t have a bold caffeinated feeling like I get from darker chai. The sweetness of the ginger and cardamom hang in your mouth for a while after you sip it down. Overall, it’s a very nice tea with a really wonderful flavor. I feel like I could drink this right before bed as well.

I searched last Summer for this tea because I love coconut and I love chai. When I found it I was disappointed. I think a may be biased and think I only like black tea chai.

I tried to keep an open mind tonight and followed the directions on the can(I normally think my way is the right way). The coconut is not over powering and does not have an artificial taste like some other teas I have tried. The spices are not as strong as I’m used to either.

I think I could grow to like this and maybe finish the can if I try, but I would rather find this with black tea and toss this one.

MissB

London Drugs, if there’s one near you, carries this in all of it’s variations (rooibos, green and black).

NayLynn

I looked it up and I don’t have a London Drugs in Texas, maybe next time I’m in Canada. I have a few stores I’m going to check tomorrow and I’m sure I could find it online if not. Thanks MissB!

This smells and tastes very familiar, though I’m pretty sure I’ve had nothing quite like it. I actually have never had a green spice tea. White, oolong, black, mate and rooibos sure, but not green. I think they probably work better in this coconut and ginger context, its light a zesty and spring like and I think some citrus would compliment this very well, perhaps I shall steep with some Wild Orange and maybe experiment with the packet of Fruta Bomba Green I got in a gift set (it has mango). I can’t see myself drinking many "chai"s until fall, the closest thing I drank last summer was Cha Yen Thai, so good iced.

But anywho, back to this tea, its quite perfumey and there’s something almost medicinal about it, but not in a bad way it’s quite light. Cardamon is with out a doubt the most predominant spice. I don’t necessary “taste” the coconut, but I feel the creaminess it lends. The ginger is nice and reminds me of the green bottles of organic Ginger Brew I used to love. As for the green tea base  doesn’t really come through, so can’t tell if it’s quality. I picked this up from the grocery store on a whim and because it had a nice tin. No regrets, its enjoyable, but I won’t rate as no one has before and that would skew things majorly, plus I’m not really in much of a ratings mood. But thanks to logging I have some fun plans for these bags, will post the Fruta Bomba blend when I make it.

Coconut smell is overwhelming and makes it difficult to even approach it to taste. Once you’re able to sip it, it’s very plain – almost neutral. Tasted 08.2018.

Green tea is mot my favorite kind, I prefer blacks and chais, but this one is SO nice. Soothing, not strong but perfect flavour. This reminded me to get more of it. Brings me good memories and have always calmed me down.

I’m not entirely sure what I was drinking, but it was pleasant. It had the scent of coconut, of that I’m certain. There was also a pleasant ginger taste and a very mild green tea back there somewhere. I wouldn’t call this a chai, but it memorably enjoyable.

I’d like to see this sold in individually wrapped bags, mostly because this is exactly the sort of tea I’d only want to drink once every month or so, and the tin isn’t as airtight as I’d like.

This is actually much better than I was expecting—thanks to NayLynn for the bags! The coconut in this is creamy and on-point, and the spices are mostly cardamom and a hint of clove. That’s okay with me, because I think too much ginger would overpower everything else. It’s not a traditional chai, but because of that it’s unique enough that I can see myself reaching for it reasonably often until it’s gone.

Really great medley of flavour in this tea. I especially like the premium quality green tea leaves that are used. This tea is a bit sweet so it’s great if you’re wanting something sweet without eating dessert. Love this tea when it’s cold outside…this warm spice mix really warms you up!
