From Yunnan Sourcing

Jin Jun Mei growing wild and unmanaged in the Wu Yi Mountains of Fujian. This Jin Jun Mei grows in the same areas as Wu Yi’s famous Rock Oolongs and has that same mineral sweetness and flower aroma. Being traditionally processed Jin Jun Mei but from a biodiverse environment gives this tea a strong character both in terms of taste and overally feeling. Strong full mouth feeling, viscous, and expansive. Notes of dark chocolate that comes and goes, mineral and sweet with some floral and peppery notes. Difficult to describe the experience of drinking this tea! Just try it!

I find this JJM similar to Verdant’s reserve JJM. On the nose I get sweet potato, malt, brussel sprouts, a bit of cocoa. Palate; full mouth feel, tangy, earthy, honey, sweet potato, woody. Interesting. Try gong fu style to tease out the flavors.

Bought this recently with my Yunnan Sourcing USA order. There are some different notes in this one but I find myself at a loss to describe them. There is some malt and some bittersweet chocolate in there as well as a few others. Only brewed this western style this morning due to a lack of time.

I brewed this one time with 3 tsp leaf and 200 degree water in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker for 3 minutes.

Sweet veggies maybe? Have not tried this tea, but many Fujian hongcha seems to fit that description.

I have to agree with the YS description—this is a unique tea with a challenging flavor profile. I can tease out some pepper, nuts, and chocolate flavors but the overall body and mouth feel is unlike anything I’ve tasted. Maybe a hint of Rou Gui and mountain stream water when you hold the tea in your mouth for a bit.

Overall, it’s very tasty and intriguing—a good choice when you want to sit down and focus your attention.
