From Yunnan Sourcing

“Bai Ye” (lit. White Leaf) Dan Cong is grown in Ling Tou village in the north of Raoping County (Guangdong Province). Bai Ye Dan Cong varietal plants are special in curved large appearance with light yellow-green crowns. The aroma has both Flower and Honey characteristics with a heavy pungent nectar quality. The taste is thick and pure with a sweet after-finish.
Our Bai Ye dan Cong was picked and processed in April 2015. The traditional processing for Ling Tou Bai Ye Dan Cong is as follows: 1) Pick the tender shoots, typically 1 bud to 2 or 3 leaf ratio. 2) Sun wilt for 30 minutes 3) Wilt in cool shaded area for another 1 hours 4) Shaking the tea, 15 time, then 25 times, then 40 times 5) Kill green (wok frying) at 200 C (surface temperature of wok) for 4 or 5 minutes minutes with constant movement. 6) Rolling and breaking the leaf for 18 minutes. 7) Drying in hot room at 100C.
Just 15 kilograms in total produced by one family.

Pretty good stuff. It has taken me to the next level of dancong scrumptiousness. These beautiful and delicate laves are smaller than I expected. After the first rinse, my nose is met with a complex and intoxicating aroma of ripened cherries, muscat grape skins, orchids, nutmeg, and juniper berries, among other tasty notes.

There’s a lot of mouth activity going on and a definitive structure to the tea. It’s pure and has a velvety texture. During the initial 3 or so steeps, I’m getting prominent muscat grape with perhaps a few orchids thrown in there. It leaves a floral sweetness and slightly numbing sensation on the tongue as it lingers.

After the 5th or so steep, sandalwood and sweet mineral notes take the stage while the florals and muscat linger the background. By now, the tea has filled my mouth with sweetness as well as tingling and drying sensations. With my typical leaf-to-water ratio, I’d say I can get at least 8 tasty steeps. Nice qi in this one too!

Very nice example of the Phoenix powerhouse fragrant tea. Right away I noticed the leaf as well processed, tight twist and roasted lightly Over the top floral notes and the flavors of honeysuckle, musk melon and slightly sweet. Well structured mouth-feel and a tiny bit of astringency that compliments this teas aromatic boldness. This is one of those teas that I give to jaded coffee drinkers to win them over to our side.

Dancong’s are what converted me to full fledged tea drinker from coffee. That was one I eyeballed along with the Ba Xian and the Snowflake Da Wu Ye…but I’m on a “budget” and used my Amazon Gift Card on a Golden Lily and Eco-Cha’s Dong Ding. The Golden Lily is from a company called Immortalitea, and I’m curious to see how it is.

So this one is a bit sweet?

BigDaddy

Yes just a bit sweet but profound florals

Funny, the first Dancong I had from YS was disappointing, in that it tasted like an inexpensive Wuyi. However, I’ve been able to muster up the confidence try this one since lately I’ve been more than happy with Scott’s other oolongs and this one has been so favorably reviewed. I’m pretty sure I won’t regret it.

BigDaddy

I had less than appealing results from their earlier choices but there has been a concerted effort of late to bring a better offering. While it has gotten better it’s still just above average, there are better vendors and as with anything you lose out on the gamble sometimes but when you hit the mother load stick with it. Sites I like are Tea Urchin, Trees Drunk and Dragon Tea House.

Rasseru

Defo need to try tea drunk now. That last review sounded great, the ya Shi
