From Yogi Tea

As everyday impurities find their way into our bodies, we may be left feeling tired or out of balance. Yogi DeTox is a gentle way to help the body cleanse itself by aiding the two primary filtering organs, the liver and kidneys. Our tea uses the time-honored purifying herbs Burdock and Organic Dandelion to support the liver, and Juniper Berry to promote kidney function. The traditional Ayurvedic cleansing blend called “trikatu” (Ginger, Black Pepper, and Long Pepper) supports blood flow, while Indian Sarsaparilla adds spicy flavor. When combined with an overall wellness program, DeTox helps bring healthy balance from within.*

I keep trying to trick myself into liking this Tea and it’s not working. It tastes like cinnamon toilet water sweetened with stevia. Weird description but… that’s what it tastes like. Not that I have ever had toilet water.

A decent tea, full of proven detoxing ingredients. As for the taste, it has a very “chai”-like flavor profile. I don’t love the flavor itself (I don’t enjoy chai tastes, and it’s somewhat spicy), but it has that soothing/warm feeling that I look for in any good tea, so I would still drink it again. I also enjoy the health benefits.

I definitely should not have sweetened this one. All I can taste is the licorice which is cloyingly sweet already. Yikes.

Funny, I really dislike licorice but I love the spicy subtle sweet going on in this tea. I only drink it as iced tea, and many guests have commented how enjoyable it is. Highly recommend cold.

My first review in the new house :) I have a lot to do so this teabag comes in handy for a quick sip down. The bag smelled rather dry and spicy with prominent clove and pepper tones.

It says to leave in boiling water for 5-10 minutes so while I wait I will read the little quote on the teabags tag. ‘Have wisdom in your actions and faith in your merits’. Also gives me time to quickly check the Cyber Monday deals on a few cross stitch websites. Already bought myself a Marilyn Monroe kit and teapot kit.

Once cooled slightly (enough to sip) the flavour is very thick and herbal with a linger spice aftertaste. It tastes almost chemical, there is something in it that is unpleasant, it could be the licorice root as I am not a fan of it at all. Besides the licorice root I can also taste: clove, pepper and cinnamon. They blend together and the licorice taste takes over, very thick and refreshing though plastic like.

Unfortunately it is not pleasant to drink BUT I have a wave of tiredness come over me. My eyes are heavy and I’m yawning all of a sudden. It’s either the tea, my rush around this morning had latent effect or the result of listening to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (which is my favourite album). Or perhaps a combination of all three. So not a great tea but drinkable, though huge warning label if you don’t like licorice.

Quietly it sits
The kick is the aftertaste
Mouth full of flavor

This tea is not unpleasant. The initial taste is a mouthful of spices in hot water, but then the licorice/sarsaparilla hits you.

I don’t know why, but I’ve always been drawn towards detox blends. When done right, they are gentle on the body and I notice I feel a little better after drinking them (in comparison, serious detox blends are seriously bitter and make you feel sick). Just like other detox teas, the package says to not drink continuously for longer than a month. With that in mind, this tea isn’t one to drink simply for the flavor, though it is still a tasty blend. The sarsaparilla is quite noticeable which blends in well with the other spices. Licorice root prevents this blend from tasting bitter. Overall, it’s a pleasantly medicinal root beer with a number of spices thrown in.

After reading people’s reviews I was nervous to brew this, but I Just took my first sip and I’m very surprised to say that I really like it! I did add a small spoonful of raw agave nectar to help sweeten.
It tastes like a light spicy root beer. I might use it to do a monthly detoxification. :)
