From white2tea

Flap Jacks ripe was pressed in 2017. Each flap jack is roughly 8 grams, with 5 flapjacks in each short stack.
This blend of ripe Puer is suitable for any style of brewing. It has a sweet flavor and inviting fragrance that make it a solid daily drinker for new and veteran Puer drinkers alike. Soothing and smooth, a lovely ripe blend. The easy to steep shape makes it an ideal tea to grab on the go.

Sipdown

I had this grandpa’d style at work today. I was preoccupied during the day. We were trying to get the shipment count down as much as possible, with the holiday around the bend. I worked like a fiend to get my stuff out of the way, but it looks like I’ll go into work Thursday with my hands full.

I noted that it had a thick cocoa sweetness throughout; smooth, sweet, and savory. I should’ve spent more time with it, but I needed the boost for the day.

Side Note: We also decided to get a second dog this weekend. Our Australian Shepard, Groot, was getting quite lonely, as well as anxious. Since we knew that he likes other animals, we found a breeder near the house, and got him a brother (also an Aussie). We named him Chewy (Chewbacca) on the account that he’s brown, fluffy, and adored by all. Groot seems to like him a lot.

Anyway, he was up at 02:00, after going to bed at 23:00. I am beat. Otherwise, he’s potty trained and getting on his new schedule, which has been easily adjusted and he seems to go with the flow.

Lastly, I’m down to the last few bits of my W2T stuff…I drank a lot of it, on the account that I picked up a healthy amount of tea on Black Friday. I’ve lost the tracking on it, though…For it shows that it left China on 12/5. I’ve never had such a wait with W2T in the past, so here’s to hoping that it arrives in the US soon. I suppose I could always email Paul again, to see if they can see what’s going on with the shipment from that end…Either way, the tea will hopefully be here within the month, I assume.

I also have two BF orders that haven’t arrived yet, I think it’s just a busy time for post.

MadHatterTeaDrunk

It’s a real bummer.
Hopefully you’ll see your stuff soon!

Togo

Yeah, I mostly don’t want it to get lost, it’s not like I have a shortage of tea, rather the opposite if anything :D

I took a whole Flap Jack (about 7 grams). 10 seconds rinse. 20 seconds first steep.

It looks quite weak. But maybe it is because it is not broken yet, it reminds me bit wet soil. But in taste it is still smooth and nice. Let´s see in next ones.

Next steep was little longer. I think maybe, 25 seconds. Creamy, sweet, as well thick. How weird. But I like it. Apparently tea starts to break, so it is starts to be more full of flavour. I think I like the most on this tea is price point. It is quite cheap, while it is flavourful, creamy and thick. Even 3rd steep is like that. I thought it won´ t be so full of flavour, but it is. And it is towards of sweet notes. Which I like, because I don´t like much those earthy flavours.

I still think there is cocoa in taste.

Someone here (mrmopar, perhaps?) recommended rinsing and then letting the tuo rest for ten or more minutes to saturate, to get the flavor going faster, if you wish. But sometimes there isn’t time for that, or we want it to take a little longer!

mrmopar

Sometimes on highly compressed teas a wait time after the rinse seems to work. Up to 10 minutes sometimes.

thank you for idea mrmopar

Hopefully it will change the session.

An update to my previous tasting note and a bump in the rating.
Not sure if it’s because of the preparation parameters or something else altogether but this was an extremely delightful cup of tea. Woody notes aside, it was like having a plate of scrumptious toasty waffles served with a dollop of mouthwatering vanilla ice cream and some light maple syrup for good measure. I was ready for some good shou but this totally blew me away.

225/365

Got to have flapjacks for breakfast, right? It was also an easy thing to pull out this morning, so maybe just call me lazy. I’m happy to be on safe ground with a ripe pu’erh, though; somehow I just feel like I know where I am with those. Raw is still a little scary!

This one is pretty much as I’d hoped. It’s on the sweet side right from the first sip, with some really prominent and distinctive dried date notes. There’s very little earthiness; mostly, this seems to be about rich sweetness and dark, dried fruit flavours. It reminds me a little of sticky toffee pudding, without the sauce! In texture terms, it’s really smooth and almost oily; it feels like it ought to leave a residue, but fortunately doesn’t.

This one’s really easy to drink, and pleasingly different from most of the ripe pu’erhs I’ve tried recently. It holds up well, too, as you’d expect. I’m still loving the coin format (like I said, I’m lazy), and I feel like I might have found my pu’erh happy place in White2Tea.

I’m on holiday for 2 weeks at the beginning of July, so some of these might come with me. I’m not sure how I’m going to manage my challenge during that time; either take a break or carry enough samples and note everything down, I suppose. TBD! For the moment, I’m going to go back to enjoying this one.

White2Tea has a wide selection of single brew-size individually packaged puehrs that
excel as inexpensive daily drinkers on a go. Ripe Flap Jacks is a nice recent addition to that group: cute 8-g little pancakes easily separating in a cup.

The taste is very mild and sweet, with earthy and rotten wood notes present but quite muted. No fishiness, no funkiness. This tea lends itself best to short (~10 seconds) gaiwan infusions and produces a lot of them without a noticeable decrease in flavor. The taste is not complicated at all but is consistently pleasant and cheerful. A very good daily drinker indeed.

It’s got the mellow caramel sweetness that I look for in a Pu’er with no wet-piling dank flavour to it. The liquor is very thick and robust. The individual flapjacks are perfectly sized with gorgeous packaing to boot!

These flap jacks are so cute!

I plopped one 7.2 gram flap jack into my gaiwan and went for it. One 20 second wash, a 20 minute rest, 15 second steep (still very light), then 10 seconds as it opened up. I didn’t pay too much attention to where the brewing went from there, but I would guess I got 12 steeps ending at a 3 minute steep.

The aroma of the wet leaves is very interesting. I got notes of cedar wood, smoke, molasses, and dates. It almost reminded me of a rich barbecue sauce. Unexpected but not unpleasant! The liquor smells a bit more traditional, quite fruity with a leading edge of dates.

The first brew was basically a rinse — very light still. The second steep is when the tea really opens up to me and brews quite dark. The liquor has a bit of cloudiness, but no off-putting funk to the flavor. As if it were the topping to a flapjack the mouthfeel is quite thick and syrupy, with a slick finish on the tongue. The flavor is well balanced. It leads with an earthy flavor and vague sweetness. As the cup cools it turns more fruity and you start to taste the date you could smell in the aroma.

The qi is more potent than I expected. It stays in my head, making my face slightly numb and my head heavy. There’s not much of a mood altering effect, but the physical energy is enjoyable. The feeling lasted into the fifth steep before it completely faded.

As the session goes on the aroma changes from barbecue vibes to vanilla and baking spices. This might be the first shou I’ve had that I would describe as aroma oriented. I say that because the scents this tea gives off are quite strong, interesting, and enjoyable but the flavor is less so. The flavor is rather mild and doesn’t have many flavors I could discern — just a general earthy and fruity flavor throughout the session. Definitely not a bad tea, but it doesn’t have quite the flavor kick I like in a ripe tea. On the plus side though, the mild flavor makes it very hard to push this tea too far.

Gongfu Sipdown (619)!

Finished this one off last night, with some fresh strawberries, as a post work “welcome to the weekend” sort of session – sprawled out in bed listening to music and just sort of letting myself unwind and relax.

This is a bittersweet sipdown, since I really enjoyed this flapjacks A LOT – but also it feels like I’ve accomplished something in polishing off this little ‘mini tong’ of tuochas. Also, ripe tea and red berries!? Such a pleasant pairing – you get the dense, earth notes of the shou which are grounding and thick and then the bright, sweet pop of berry juices from each bite that seem so much more vibrant and lively contrasted against the pu’erh. Fucking phenomenal!

I’d purchase these again – it’s just so convenient having the little prewrapped, measured out coins and the tea itself is still really good tasting!

I like the price tag for quite a nice amount of tea in my opinion. In addition, tea itself is quite good and easydrinking.

One thing I liked about this tea is how accessible it is. It’s at a reasonable price point and was very easy to drink. Besides that, it was also very forgiving if over steeped. Despite this teas thickness, it showed signs of humidness towards the beginning and end of the session, and could benefit from resting. Overall, it had a nice profile and was a delight to dirnk.
