Alright, so I got the caramel flavor in this but again with the aftertaste? It’s not a bad taste, it’s just so unexpected that it’s distracting. I’ve got a couple of the purple oolongs to try from What-Cha that I’m hoping might be more up my alley. Thanks for the chance to try, Ost!

A smooth, caramel, molasses, thick, rich, smokey keemun! I enjoy the smooth texture and the caramel notes. The smoke and richness of this tea keeps you on your toes! I don’t mind a bit of smoke, so I found this the smoke level pleasant with the other flavor notes.

Another sample from my what-cha order. This keemun says “caramel aroma and taste” I’m not sure i’m getting that unless i think really hard about it. Most people would probably find this one to be on the smokey side, though not extremely so. This is the sort of keemun that i add maple syrup to! However, this has a nice smooth body to it, and i’m enjoying it today. I’d be curious to compare this one to teavivre’s offering but sadly my cupboard is all out of that currently heh

OMGsrsly

Which Teavivre one? Because I have a bunch of them still, I think.

Sil

Anlina

Huh, I loved this one. Tastes are so diverse.

Ost

I’m just weird, I’m sure you will like most of them. Haha-don’t listen to me, Sil!!

Sil

lol i just like trying things that other people don’t like when it comes to straight blacks. I think it’s really neat how wildly different an experience can be for people :)

Woo, I’m so glad to keep finding more Chinese black teas in my untried box. I’m not sure how I kept missing this one, but I’m super pleased to have it today.

Opening the packet, the dry leaf smell immediately evokes chocolate and salted caramel. I’m not exactly sure why the salted part, but that was my impression. The leaves are small, dark and twisty.

Steeped 1tsp for 2:45 in 95C water. The smell is very potent – my one cup scents the air. Still a bit of caramel and chocolate, but now there’s a lot of frutiness in the forefront. Rich fruits, like dates and prunes. Hint of smoke, but not a lot.

The flavour matches the smell – prunes, dates, chocolate, caramel, touch of smoke. This cup has good body and a very mild astringency.

So very tasty.

Too smoky for me. It’s my fault, not the tea’s. I will rehome the remainder.

Sil

awe..poor tea. is this more low-er smoke or intensely smokey or somewhere in the middle? I haven’t got an order in for what-cha yet and this is likely to be on my list. Smoke + maple = my fav heh

Marzipan

I would call it light smoky, I am just really sensitive to it.

Sil

hmmm that helps heh. thanks dahling!
