I love everytime I sample a new tea. Sometimes I am disappointed and times like today when I am pleased. As with all new teas I like to keep an eye and a nose on it while it steeps. The result was a pleasure. Dark and sweet with hints of darker fruits and dark honey. I can see where the lover of Keemuns would appreciate this but I feel it truly stands on its own. This one made me smile.

That’s good! I like a smiley tea!

(3 min steep): Rich, dark color. Powerful smoky nose. The flavors are powerful, but the smoke component is a bit too dominant for my tastes. I might like this better if it weren’t so strong. No bitterness. Big finish also dominated by smoke.

The above note was based upon 1.6 gms in 5 oz of water, which is stronger than I normally steep, so I tried again with 1.4 gms in 6 oz water. The tea wound up slightly weaker, but still strong, and the smoke still dominated. The different steeping parameters didn’t change my opinion.

Long time no steep! Don’t you hate how life and unseasonably warm weather mess with your drinking routine?

First, I think this is the correct tea title: I’m not near the packet and I don’t pay attention to product numbers. (Upton has lots of numbers :)

At any rate, this is a wonderful, bready, cocoa-y tea that reminds me greatly of the Assams I love so much. Got three decent steeps out of a pot-sized basket of leaves, one of which was great with milk. Nice mid-range price point; I think next order, I shall have to get more than a little sample packet.

Second tea of the day and the end of my sample…..

Yes, this is smokey and really reminds me of a mid range Keemun. Perhaps a little less smokey, and slightly more cocoa noted. However, I don’t think it differs enough to make it a part of my stash.

I did have just a little left over, not quite a mug worth. I have started a ‘Franken-Blend’ of all my black teas and cant wait to taste it. It has a little Golden Monkey, a tsp of Laoshan Black, the end of my Joseph Wesley Dian Hong sample, and the end of this one. I am thinking I need to tackle that little bit of tea soon!

Preparation
2 tsp 14 OZ / 414 ML
caile

That sounds like it will be quite a tasty ‘franken-blend’! :)

Oh see? I would totally love that blend. I do that too. I usually put a couple a big pinches of Black Beauty in morning mug of Special Dark. Makes me hum.
