Once steeped this smells like blackcurrant cordial but sweeter, like hard boiled blackcurrant sweets. I couldn’t really smell the rhubarb but my husband said for him the rhubarb was the strongest element. Weird.
Flavour wise it’s fairly mild considering it’s thick scent. The rhubarb is noticeable now and is sweet yet a little tart though I must specify the word little. It still tastes like a hard boiled sweet, or some sort of cough syrup….it’s a little odd.
Definitely a winter tea but I can’t get over it’s medicinal flavour. This just is not my cup of tea.
I don’t drink a lot of bagged tea these days, but it does come in handy when I’m feeling as exhausted as I am at the moment. Last Friday the entirety of my new job got dumped in my lap, and I ended up working Saturday and most of last week to try and at least get things back on track. That means I’ll have to spend this week catching up on everything I should have been doing last week, with the expectation that things be in some sort of reasonable shape before the christmas break. Which I’ll be glad to have. I’ve hardly had time to drink tea, let alone keep up with my steepster notes, but still. I can only do my best.
Anyway, the tea. This really does taste remarkably like crumble, for some crushed up fruit in a bag. There’s a buttery, bakey kind of taste to it that’s quite exceptional, and tempered beautifully by the tart blackcurrant and tangy rhubarb flavours. For a supermarket bagged fruit tea, it’s not at all bad. Good strong flavour, not over hibiscussed, and blessedly caffiene and fuss free. Pretty okay, in my book.
Why are Twinings’ UK teas and tisanes so much better than their US counterparts? From the infinitely stronger and more flavorful breakfast blends to the exciting herbals they don’t carry back in the States, it’s almost as if they were two separate entities. Anyway, on to the tisane, another of the teabags I picked up at the Twinings shop a few days ago. It’s mostly blackcurrant, with some hibiscus undertones. The blackcurrant flavor is very pleasant; I only wish the rhubarb came through. I suppose the hint of sourness from the hibiscus hints at it, but that’s all. This blend seems very similar to Twinings Blackcurrant and Blueberry, and I think I like them both about equally. I’ll definitely purchase one or the other again.

There is definitely a lot of hibiscus in this both in flavour and in looks. However, I don’t really mind that too much. It might be better aka more balanced as a cold steep, but I’m happy to drink this as-is. I don’t get a lot of rhubarb, but there is SOUR so that could be rhubarb. :)
I think maybe the blackcurrant and vanilla might be more my style, but this is good too.

in SHARP contrast to the other nasty cup i had..this one is actually quite pleasant for a bagged tea. I don’t get a lot of rhubarb from this one but the blackcurrant and vanilla is nice for a bagged tea. Certainly nicer than a lot of the teas we have out here in bagged for, that’s for sure! thanks again missB!
