From Trader Joe's

Green Tea is steeped in intrigue and has been for millennia. First, it originally comes from China—that vast land with ancient and mysterious cultures. Second, the tea, itself, appears to possess a wide variety of healthful qualities, most of which are unscientific, yet still apparently more than anecdotal. Third, Green Tea has elaborate and intricate traditions built around it (i.e. Japan’s Chado, or “The Way of Tea”) that make it so much more than just a ‘cuppa tea.’

Trader Joe’s own history with Green Tea has been a marvelous mixed bag, spanning across categories. We currently offer Matcha Green Tea Latte Mix, Mochi Green Tea Ice Cream, Green Tea Mints, French Green Tea Soap, Organic Green Tea and Lemonade, and Organic Green Tea in bags. Until now, we’ve never presented it in a loose format. Our Coconut Green Tea fills this spot and represents one of our earliest forays into the world of loose teas.

We went out of our way to acquire our high-quality Green Tea from Japan. To it, we’ve added real coconut bits, dried lemongrass, and dried ginger. What we haven’t added is sugar. What you taste is that slightly bitter Green Tea, unsweetened, with a pronounced coconut flavor that doesn’t overwhelm. The lemongrass and ginger together provide a nice balance.

Enjoy this loose tea hot or cold. If hot, be sure not to steep it in water that is too hot—167ºF to 194ºF is best. (For reference, 212ºF is water’s boiling point). Our favorite method is cold brewed: Add one teaspoon of loose tea for each eight-ounces of cold water. Then chill in the fridge overnight before straining, for an extra smooth brew.

This one is a bit, um, grassy? for me. Not bad, and my sister loves it, but it’s just not my thing. It could be yours, if you like coconut!

First time drinking this tea which I bought on a whim at TJs yesterday. It has a very mild flavor with the lemongrass hitting me first and the coconut at the end. Grassy throughout. Not tasting vanilla or ginger at all . It brewed very light and I guess this accounts for the mild flavor. I typically like a bolder flavor profile, but don’t mind it for a bed time tea, even tho I am drinking it at 3 am. Will definitely try again but make it with more tea and maybe steep longer

I really like this tea – it’s the one that got me actually liking tea (and I’ve tried many many times before to get into it), and it’s the one that got me into loose leaf tea (probably why this took even though I always found tea too harsh or bitter before).

I don’t taste very much coconut in it – at least not that I identify as COCONUT. I get more of the lemon grass, which I’m very pleased with. It’s a very citrusy tea. It lends itself really well to adding lemon and then it’s really excellent.

It’s fantastic tea for the price

A friend of mine made me a cup of this at work today (because it’s my birthday!). I love it! It reminds me of the Harney & Sons Green Tea Coconut Thai blend, but better. Mellow, slightly nutty, buttery, pleasant. Perfect for this rainy cloudy day. Yum yum yum. :D

This is a great green tea for the price. I’m getting a good coconut scent and flavor, but not much citrus from the lemongrass. I believe I got the 5 oz. tin for under 6 bucks which you really can’t beat. It’s not my favorite green tea (I prefer straight/unflavored green tea’s with honey added), but the quality is good and at this price-point I’m going to try to incorporate it into my regular rotation.

Wonderful! Right out of the gate I can taste the coconut and the citrus. It is a wonderful complement with the green tea. It is a bit bitter but perhaps I steeped it too long.

It has a very warm range of flavors to it and I really find it as a solid choice. It was on the shelf at Trader Joe’s and was $5 for 5oz which is a great deal!

This is one of the worst green teas I have ever bought a large quantity of… but, it makes the best soup broth for any Asian styled soup you’d like to create.
Marking this as a coconut green tea is very deceptive because it’s really lemon grass and green tea (with maybe some coconut and ginger).

Pick this up at a whim when I was shopping at Trader Joe’s. In the tin the leaves are nice and big and you can see a little bits of lemongrass and coconut. The flavor is very earthy and grassy, slightly bitter with just a hint of the coconut and lemongrass, it says it has ginger too but I can’t really detect the ginger.

Overall it’s an okay tea easy to drink, not the best ever but still drink definitely drinkable. I probably won’t repurchase it but I will definitely drink the rest of what I have.

I saw this the other day at Trader Joe’s and picked it up out of curiosity. It was the only loose tea they had other than Matcha. I was curious to try it and picked it tonight as green tea has less caffeine than black tea or puerh, at least according to my Gastroenterologist, who should tell me to drink Puerh as his name is Dr Shou. For the price I paid it isn’t bad, not great but not bad. There are strong notes of coconut, lemongrass, and ginger, all added to this tea. There is little bitterness or astringency and little vegetal flavor at all. The tea leaves are elongated and flat, like a sencha although I don’t know that it is a Sencha. It is from Japan according to the package. I am interested to try this iced. I won’t rate this tea highly but it will get a comparatively good rating, considering it is up against Mandala and Butiki. I didn’t give all of my teas from Butiki a 100% after all.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and 175 degree water for 3 min.

You will have to tell your Dr to get on Steepster. He will be an instant hit.

Work buddy brought me a snack bag of this to try—it’s just lovely! Light and leans heavy to the sweet coconut cream side. First cuppa was so sweet I added just a pinch of fresh leaf and am attempting a second steep, chilled. Will be tasty for a feet-up after VBS Day 1. I have two phenomenal teenage helpers—one of whom showed up in fedora and trench coat and cheerfully provided secret agent code names for my little pod of nine-year-olds. Henceforth, you may refer to me as Captain Bigelow.
