Taiwan Yuan Wei Yan Cha
(Formosa Unroasted Cliff Tea)
Literally translated as “cliff tea”, this yan cha is produced by the Bih-lu Tea Gardens in Taiwan from a wild growing version of the cultivar that gives us the “Purple Bud.” The tea is highly oxidized but not roasted so the pure character of the black tea comes through. An exceptional tea from plants that are hundreds of years old, the light “cocoa powder” nose carries through to a pleasing rich finish with characteristic mineral after notes.
