From The Republic of Tea

This decadent dessert tea has the homemade flavors of vanilla sponge cake drizzled with rich caramel sauce. The full-bodied base of premium black tea lends itself well to a splash of milk, making it a perfect afternoon tea to partner with puddings, scones and shortbread.

The award-winning TV series, Downton Abbey® has entranced millions of viewers and become a modern media sensation. Every episode is an explosion of drama, relationships and intrigue. I read the company description. I’m a fat boy. I know what decadent vanilla sponge cake drizzled with caramel sauce tastes like. (hint – not this) This reminds me of Superberry that my wife loves. To me if you said this was rosehips and currants I would believe you.

Downtown Abbey is a show that I am never going to watch despite knowing a lot of people love it. Mrs Patmore’s Pudding Tea seems adored by most who have reviewed it. I’m happy for fans of both, but I’m sticking with my Earl Grey and Star Trek.

Live long and prosper.

My friend has that one and she constantly recommends it. At the same time, I have the Sweet Journey which is essentially the same tea swapping the carob for the cardamom.

gmathis

All the more for me :)

Yep. And that’s why we have a gazillion different blends. I really tried with this one – I tend to love almost everything.

Work stash thinning again. I loved this one when the tin was new—it did had a lovely little caramelly pastry undertone. Fast forward to … well, much later than it should be, and the artificial flavoring has gone the way of Matthew Crawley (sigh). What’s left is a little berry and a little stale rooibos. Lady Violet would not approve.

I’m a fan of The Republic of Tea. I know they don’t get much love around here. I love their little niche of collectible tins and flavor blends.

Mrs. Patmore’s Pudding Tea tastes similar to their Caramel Vanilla Cuppa Cake Tea. Maybe I need to sip them side by side to be able to do true comparison. It’s a good tea. They both are.

If I could pick one out of the Downton Abbey series to try, this would be it.

So glad to finally get to try this! This is really the only Downton Abbey tea I would have considered purchasing without first tasting. These teas are more expensive than the other normal RoT tins, so it would have been a bigger risk. Thanks to Ost, I got to try it first and now probably will go buy it :) I could definitely drink this as a dessert tea, but it was mellow enough that I could drink this when I want a more breakfast-style tea, too. It has a caramel bread pudding sort of vibe.

This is a very creamy tea- more vanilla than figgy, but there was that earthy note in it. All in all, very pleasant. I enjoy it greatly.
Thanks Ost for letting me try!

Oh, I’ve got to find this! Can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to eat something cooked by Mrs. Patmore!

Of all the Downton teas, this one sounds best!

Holy Freakin’ Shanghai.
Why on earth is RoT teas not more popular here? Like seriously. Their caramel and vanilla flavoring is amazing!
Are they not popular because most of their teas are in tea bag form or what? If you like caramel or vanilla teas, you have to try this tea!
At first when I started drinking It tasted almost exactly like their “Caramel Vanilla Cuppa” tea. So I was kinda disappointed. But as I drank more the caramel flavor kinda sunk into the background while the creamy vanilla taste took over.
Holy Shanghai.
You don’t even need any sweetener or anything. It’s just that freakin’ delicious!
Thank you so much to Darby letting me try it!
If you like dessert teas, this is an excellent one to try!! I highly recommend! Think that this is going to be a staple in my cupboard!
My only complaint is that it isn’t decaf. But the amazing flavor makes up for it :P

I know for us, ROt isn’t readily and easily accessible…

Maddy Barone

I might have to try this one now! I think I can order it through Amazon.

Nicole

They do have loose leaf offerings but I think mainly what stops me is the amount of tea in the tins. I don’t need 3.5 oz or 50 bags of one kind of tea – it will take me forever to get through. It was their Golden Yunnan that first turned me on to Yunnans, though, and it was a bagged form even.

I have looked occasionally online when they have sales and just can’t get past the price – it’s not that unreasonable for the quantity but it’s a good chunk of money to spend on one kind of tea. :) If I could find their Yunnan at the stores here in town that sell it, I’d pick some up. But it seems like most places here that carry them carry the white/green/fruit blends and not so much the blacks and straight teas.

Sil

i would love to have more of these…but as nicole says…3.5 oz of tea bags takes me forever to use up….if i could split them 4 ways with ppl or something maybe lol

this one does sound great!

Maddy Barone

We need more online stores that allow us to buy 10 grams or .5 ounce of a tea to try. I hate to buy 50 grams and find out I don’t like it. :(

I spent the day with Downton Abbey! I’m in the process of planning a tea party for next May. We have our entertainment which is a vintage fashion show. It was perfect to pair with my idea for a Downton Abbey tea. The others hadn’t seen the show so I invited them over for a tea party and to watch an episode.

Two of us started off with this tea and two started with the Bates tea. This one was my favorite out of the three I tried. It has a nice smooth, flavorful black base with caramel and vanilla notes. I think I had about three cups of it! Lol

Since the Downton teas were a hit, I ordered a set for our party…could have about 100 people attend.

Ost

I really need to get this one soon!!

I can send you some!

I’ve never watched Downton Abbey but the description of this tea just called to me. When I read the ingredients I realized it’s very similar to Republic of Tea’s Caramel Vanilla Cuppa Cake tea. To compare the two I actually drank a cup of each within a short period of time.

I used two tea bags in a large (14oz) mug, added boiling water, a touch of sweetener and splash of half & half. It was scrumptious The tea tastes like a rich, decadent vanilla cake. The caramel flavoring is a sweet drizzle that works its way through my tastebuds. It’s scrumdiliumptious.

It is very similar to the Caramel Vanilla Cuppa Cake tea but there are subtle differences. This cake is a bit less sweet and slightly richer in flavor. If you’re a fan of vanilla caramel flavored teas, this would be an excellent addition to your cupboard.
