Swap Sample Sipdown! (66)

I had bags of this from both Kawaii433 and tea-sipper.

I admit, I didn’t realize until going to write this note that this is a rooibos-based blend. It’s in paper teabags, so you can’t really see the contents, and it brews up quite dark so I had assumed a black base. It also doesn’t taste overly rooibos-y.

But now that I know, I can taste the rooibos and therefore feel like a moron, ha ha!

Other than that, it has a mixture of banana Runts and more natural banana flavors. It’s a little bit creamy, but I don’t get much in the way of chocolate from it.

Not bad though, especially for a caffeine-free blend.

I bought this tea thinking it would be delicious but I hate it. Now I have an entire can of it smells like cheap chocolate that you get at Easter and a stale banana moon pie. The rooibos didn’t help the combination.

Additional notes: I’m already craving this many times since I acquired it from Ost, so I guess I need to raise the rating (from a 76). Craving it so much that I had to look to see if it was available from Republic of Tea. uh oh. I’ll wait for a sale or something. I just love the dusky chocolate and ripe banana.

Also sipdowned one of my separate amounts of Lupicia’s Melon oolong. Does it count as a sipdown if I have more than one amount of it? Or does it only count if ALL of that tea is gone from both packages? (2019 Sipdowns: 7?)

Cameron B.

I think it counts!

tea-sipper

Even if it was a sample? :D

Cameron B.

Yes! Each separate package counts as a sipdown IMO. But obviously what you count is completely up to you. No one here would dare judge you! ;)

tea-sipper

alright, I’ll count samples but I draw the line at individually wrapped teabags that I have one of. haha.

Cameron B.

I tend to save those for traveling, and I have amassed a giant gallon ziploc bag full of them… :P

Evol Ving Ness

Yep, it counts. I mix all sipdowns in my count—large and small.

tea-sipper

Yep, I save most of my random wrapped teabags in a butter cookie tin. I’m surprised they fit. haha

An enjoyable rooibos blend. Doesn’t taste like the most natural of banana flavours but still enjoyable nonetheless. According to the ingredients though there are no artificial flavourings in this tea. Surprisingly. The chocolate plays second fiddle to the banana, but works very well as a supporting flavour. I would drink this again if offered, but I would not purchase it. I steeped this for 10 minutes using 2 bags for 12 ounces.

I wish I liked red rooibos. It is in just about all of the banana blends.

TeaNTees

I have a green rooibos plantain tea that I will be sending you in your next tea package from me!! :)

I must try out more ROT! This is very enjoyable, assuming you like bananas and let’s face it, why would you be sipping a tea called banana cuppa chocolate unless you liked bananas??? This would make a good after dinner treat or maybe something to drink in bed with a book on a cold night… The banana and chocolate are well balanced, neither overpowers the other and most importantly the banana doesn’t taste overly artificial… Yum!!

Backlog:

Holy Shanghai!!
Another RoT that I am beginning to fall in love with! It feels like people usually give bagged teas a bad rep, but I keep trying RoT teas and end up really loving them! They make such excellent Dessert teas! _
I think I actually like this better than Lupicia’s version of a chocolate and banana tea. In Lupicia’s version you can taste the black tea base too much, and it’s incredibly easy to over-steep it, which sucks for me because I am infamous for over-steeping.
This tea has a rooibos base, and the chocolate and banana flavors are both strong enough to cover up the woody rooibos flavor.
Plus, this tea is decaf! Perfect on sooo many levels!
I can over-steep it, and it will be fine.
It’s the perfect blend of chocolate and banana.
It’s the perfect dessert tea to satisfy my dessert cravings.
Anddd it’s decaf!
Ahh this is a must buy on my list. Thank you sooo much for this sample, The Cookie Lady! You keep getting me hooked on RoT teas! :P

I really like this one too and am on my second tin of it. I usually do two bags for a richer flavor.

Ost

Really? For how much oz?

Dustin

I use a David’s mug, so 12oz.

Republic of Tea sure nails the scents on their dessert teas! I could have sworn someone was baking chocolate chip banana bread in my kitchen while this one was steeping. Unfortunately, the flavor just can’t live up. I used 2 tea bags and steeped for almost 10 minutes, but I’m still finding this rather bland and watery. What I do taste is artificial banana flavor with just a bit of chocolate. On the plus side, there is no unpleasant rooibos aftertaste with this one!

From the Cooking TTB.

Banana and chocolate. Not particularly sweet on its own, and as is often the case the chocolate part seems a bit thin, but quite tasty with some milk and sugar. I gulped this cup down.

Okay I just finished enjoying a cup of this tasty blend so the details are fresh in my mind.

I used two tea bags because I have a large mug, boiling water and added some half & half and sweetener. The tea smelled delicious while it steeped. The banana scent just kept calling me over to take a sniff.

When I took a sip, the banana flavor is most prominent. It’s an artificial banana flavor but it’s still yummy. The chocolate is there but a bit subtle (especially compared to the banana). To be fair I’ve had these tea bags for some time now so the chocolate flavor might have diminished over time but it’s still good to me.

It reminds me of a banana flavored chocolate coated Moon Pie. I know some folks don’t really considered blends like this “real tea” (I was actually told that by a friend who sniffed that her husband was a tea aficionado and in her opinion this wasn’t tea) but I’m definitely ordering more.
