This is really quite tasty … but it took a few sips to get to that point. At first, the flavors seemed really difficult to discern, I could taste hints of Oolong and apple and sweet toffee, but, it didn’t really come together and say “toffee apple” to me. It was tasty enough, but, it just wasn’t quite what I expected.

But then, after about my third or fourth sip, I said (out loud): WOW! This is good!

The flavors have really come into focus. The Oolong tastes sweet and buttery, with a creamy kind of flavor that melds quite well with the apple and toffee flavors. The apple tastes sweet with a hint of tartness to it, and then there is the sweet, sticky toffee flavor – so incredibly YUMMY!

I really like this!

I have been looking forward to this ever since I read the reviews and the beautiful picture is just so intoxicating. The quality of the tea is impressive beautiful big leaves and visible pieces of apple – the smell is sweet and really does have a toffee apple scent.

I made up a nice pot of it and was enchanted by the smell when hot it really does smell like a hot toffee apple unfortunately the taste did not match the smell or the expectation. It tastes like an apple tea – the oolong component is very light, while you know you’re drinking an oolong it comes across more as an apple tea with a hint of oolong rather than an oolong tea with apple.

The taste also didn’t come across as toffee or creamy-like it tastes like a light tea.

As a huge fan of oolong teas and particularly of creamy and milky oolongs I was disappointed by the taste of this tea it seems very lacking in the oolong taste department and far closer to a herbal tea taste than an oolong taste.

If you like apples you’ll like this tea, and if you’re trying to edge into oolongs from herbals this would be a good tea to try. But if, like me, you love oolongs I wouldn’t recommend this.

Shame you didn’t enjoy the Toffee Apple Winter. You’re dead on when you say that it’s good for those “transitioning” into oolongs. Amara likes to drink it with a dash of agave syrup to bring out the toffee flavour. Someone with a more developed palate such as yourself might enjoy our single origin Milk Oolong (which is a traditional Milk Oolong, not a flavoured one) or even the Tropical Paradise which we use a base of GABA oolong for.

Winter Salo

It really would be good for a try-out tea, often people start with a strong oolong and are put off the type altogether, which is a shame because oolongs are awesome.

Thanks for the recommendations – your Milky Oolong looks very tempting I love the idea of sampling a single origin – estate type that can be pretty hard to find in Australian tea sellers. I’ve added it to my list of tees to try. :)

The Rabbit Hole

It’s true. Oolongs are my favourite too. Such an awesome variety of complex and subtle flavours.

Aww, this seemed so promising from the product description…

The aroma is AWESOME!!!! Magnificent, even! I’m assuming there is more than one kind of apple in there from what I can see the colors of the ‘skins’ are different…not sure…but great! I LOVE that aspect! The first infusion was very apple and a nice juicy and semi-tart apple, indeed! The 2nd infusion was less apple upfront but you could still taste it in the aftertaste and it lingers nicely. The Oolong pops thru more in the 2nd infusion.

This is one of the better flavored APPLE teas I have tried. Nice flavor.

Something else I noticed about the apple part is a hint of lemon…almost like when you cut up an apple and squeeze apple juice over top to keep the apple fresher-longer…

And there was sugary-creamy notes I picked out too which I will say is the toffee part the description is talking about…

Nicely done! Very aromatic and flavorful!!!

I have to try this one!

My order of The Rabbit Hole tea arrived after what seemed like forever! It actually came really quick and i cannot blame them for my inaccurate perception of the passage of time. but i was so excited about these teas it seemed like much longer. I also got a free tea and a hand written thank you note which i though was really nice. I havent even tried the tea yet (its brewing. be patient) and i already like them.

Dry the tea smells amazing. like freeze dried apples… which is whats in it so that makes sense. while brewing it smells like fresh apples. a really sweet variety like fujis or pink ladies.

and now for the tasting….(drum roll)

holy crap. thats good.

It has a delicious light, fresh oolong and the apple flavour is scrumptious. Its a sweet tea but in a fruity way, not in a sugary way if that makes sense. It sort of has a hint of flavour that reminds me of those apple chew lollies i love. which may slightly contradict the “not-sugary sweet” comment i just made…. but i dont care! try the tea and you will get what i mean.

so excited about trying the eight other teas i got.
