From THE O DOR

To have a cup of ‘Marabout’ means to drink a sweet and refined red rooibos, with delicious flavors.

To make it clear, I have absolutely no intention to unveil all of my little secrets to you, such as the ingredients of this rooibos with notes of apple and caramel that I particularly appreciate.

You give me no reason to do so and I must say that I feel slightly irritated… Do you think I am selfish?

Not at all, you are the one being impertinent!

INGREDIENTS: Red rooibos (Origin: South Africa) (83%), Caramel pieces* (8%), Apple pieces (5%), Flavors (Vanilla, Baked apple).

My second Theodor rooibos and I am impressed, even if I did not love this quite as wholeheartedly as the first (Carpe Diem).

This smells heavenly – baked apple and toffee and indescritably dessert-y. Just the smell makes you feel good. Brewed up the taste is not quite as intense or as identifiably caramel-apple (Tarte Tatin) but I am impressed by how smooth, nice, full of body the rooibos base is. The apple-toffee melds wonderfully with it. The rooibos seems to have nutty-caramelley-honey tones itself and that is what makes this shine. I am so impressed by Theodor´s rooibos bases and how they flavour those. If you like rooibos, try to check what they are doing with rooibos.

Thanks cteresa for sending this one my way.

There is certainly that signature rooibos medicinal taste here, but it’s not the worst I’ve had. The baked apple I’m getting as well. I’m not so sure about the toffee, though there is a subtle sweetness to it that could be the toffee? Overall a smooth tea, even with that rooibos taste!

I’m glad I got the chance to try this one out :)

Glad ypu found it interesting! I admit I am a rooibos lover ;) Though I am also a rooibos snob, a lot of rooibos bases, particularly cheaper brands (unless it´s south african cheap brands! LOL) are pretty bad – this rooibos base is pretty smooth IMO, but still rooibos for sure. Toffee, yes, I think it is literally tiny cubes of toffee which are supposed to melt – try to stir it once or twice when brewing and later when drinking for extra effect (and so the toffee does not end all at the bottom of the pot or cup!)

Prepared this tea as it is evening again. Thank you again Dustin sending it my way.

I am thinking about Cameron B. as drinking this tea, as I have just heard in news that Texas is under cover of snow and there are some major blackouts. Hopefully everything will be alright soon!

And now, finally to the tea:
Dry sachet, reminds me strongly Bird and Blend’s Apple Strudel. But this one is to be brewed with 85°C water; 4-6 minutes steep. I did my best for both parameters — 5 minutes steep, temperature above 80°C, but not boiling!

The aroma of steeped tea is unpleasantly apple sour, I am blaming a bit the rooibos aroma combined with apples make it unpleasant. Luckily, in taste it is different, and it is quite bold rooibos base. Surprisingly not musty; and I have to say, I like it. The apple is mellow and I notice hints of caramel sweetness too.

Overall, not a cup I would necessary have again, but I am pleased with it.

Fairytale pairing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ttfXJZwtxg (it’s about Marabu, and I guess this tea is called after this bird; and yes, there are some songs too. It’s called (literally) Jerboas and Marabou.

Book pairing (I need to finish it quickly, as I need to return it to library this week): CORNWELL, Bernard: Sword Song (translated to Czech) pp. 203-282 (of 311)

Flavors: Apple, Caramel, Rooibos, Sour

Aww thanks for worrying about me! We’re actually really lucky that our power hasn’t gone out, probably because we’re right next to a police & fire station. We are having some issues with our pipes freezing, but doing okay so far!

I am very glad to hear!

My sister made me tea while I showered. She overleafed this and whatever else she did, she did right because I am getting a lot more apple this time than I did previously. Plus, there is a nice dose of toffee to sweeten everything up. There is also base peaking through but not in an offensive way but rather it is adding a different layer to this, albeit one that isn’t entirely cohesive with everything else. It is a nice way to end the night but I think that even though I enjoyed this sample, generously given to me by Sil, I am okay saying goodbye. Its pleasant enough but nothing I need in my life, especially since toffee/ caramel apple teas are everywhere.

Toffee/caramel teas are everywhere. In the words of Sil, heh.

But good toffee/caramel teas are hard to find, imho.

Delicious. This one was a bit of a gamble. Some rooibos i like, others are that woody sort that just don’t do it for me. Not sure if i got apple caramel out of this one but i DID get delicious caramel yum. Curious about how this one would taste as a latte.

This tea smells so delicious. Sweet rooibos with notes of caramel and pastry. The rooibos itself seems like it’s of good quality and is actually a little bit finer than others I’ve had. It makes a beautiful red cup.

Sipping… the rooibos is softer and smoother than others I’ve had. There is still a rather distinct woody flavor that always comes with rooibos, but I appreciate how smooth this one is. There is a gentle sweetness that wraps itself around the cup, but I can’t really tell what it is… to me, it tastes awfully similar to a caramel rooibos. This sweetness pairs very well with the rooibos that it almost seems like they’re one. I am a little confused about the apple as I can’t taste any, but I think that I’ll have to experiment with this blend a bit more to see what other flavors I can get.

I really enjoy the smoothness of the cup and love the strong notes of rooibos and caramel, but I feel like I’m missing out on the other apple and toffee flavors. I will play around with this a little more to see if I can bring them out of hiding.
