Another taste note, just to add, that brewing this hot, it´s OK, interesting. Brewing this cold, with long steep times, it goes very very bitter. Cold steeping this for short (one hour) and then sweetening it, this is very very nice. Citrusy, herby and energizing (in a different way than regular caffeine).

Oh, I remember writing in my review I might get a small craving for this in the future, and yes, there it is.

cteresa

I still want their black mate with red fruits. I think when I do that long promised order there I am going to get a mate for sure!

Anna

Ooooh, cool. I look forward to the review. =)

Thanks to cteresa for the sample – my first green mate/maté (in memory, at any rate!) I drank this a few days ago, but didn’t get a chance to make a note at the time. I liked it! I didn’t immediately become fired with the desire to find more mate teas and become one with them, but I liked the flavouring a lot and it all worked together well. Big fan of lemongrass here.

Funny thing though – I’d caffeinated up with my usual two strong cups of afternoon black tea before drinking this, and about 30 minutes later, was hit by a wave of sleepiness I found hard to fight. What was that about?

cteresa

LOL, now the sleepiness is funny – with me, the mate is very energizing. Different than coffee or even tea, but very un-sleepy.

I like this one also, though not a huge favorite – but I am certainly interested in their other mates!

Hallieod

:) It may just have been the day that was in it – sleeping on the sofa with Bell isn’t totally restful! But I’ll try it again before my afternoon caffeine blast and see if I can register the energizing effect you get.

As you can tell, I’m box-sampling way outside of my comfort zone this time around. Next up, lemongrass! There were two lemongrasses (uh) in the box, so I figured I’d compare, even if one is a yerba maté (this one) and the other a straight-up herbal.

I was surprised that I liked the scent of this one so much in the bag – I keep avoiding citrus, but it seems it’s just one of those Brian Roberts/Sally Bowles (Cabaret) situations, where those three girls were obviously just the wrong three girls.

Flavour wise, I get a slightly medicinal citrus – the tea reminds me so much of a type of citrus candy (I honestly think they were cough drops) my grandmother used to keep in her handbag. Aw, gramps. I remember how you always used to say, ‘If someone pokes you, KICK them in return!’ Always equally hilarious coming from a small Miss Marple-like old lady with a huge purse.

Strangely, though, I enjoy it. It’s sort of herbally and citrusy with no clearly distinguishable notes of any specific type of citrus, although I think it’s much closer to grapefruit than lemongrass. I could absolutely drink a few cups of this, and I have a feeling this is one of those I might experience a small, weird craving for in the future.

Thanks for sharing this, cteresa!
