Sweet Almond

I am enjoying this one right now as I type this. It is most definitely still one I enjoy a great deal. I say still only because my palette changes periodically and I start craving one type of tea all the time or sometimes the unfortunate happens. An old favorite goes by the wayside only to be replaced by something else. Lucky for me I still enjoy this one a great deal. It held up against the test of time and countless cups of tea. There is an marzipan quality to this tea that is just so warming and so appropriate for this time of year. Delicious!

I really like this one. The aroma from the dry blend is VERY SWEET. However, the prepared cup is quite nice. The name of blend says it all. Think candied almonds or syrupy ones like you might find on a sticky bun. Good plain, with milk, and with or without a touch of sugar. I found it to be rich, sweet and satisfying. A great dessert tea to curb a sweet carb craving.

I’m anxiously awaiting some tea from Butiki that the USPS site says will be here tomorrow. Yay! In the mean time, I’m kind of bored with all my flavored teas. I had another Sweet Almond Tea with a bit of steamed milk and honey simply because I haven’t had it all that often. But it will be going back on the shelf for awhile. Two days in a row is a bit much for that one. On the plus side, I had a ton of left over steamed milk so my 3.5 year old asked if I could make him a “tea” drink. I added some honey to the milk and a lot cinnamon and we had a little tea party. With the little Bean pouring us some pretend tea out of her fisher price tea pot. All in all, a great way to have tea.

This is a really interesting flavored tea! I first tried an amaretto-flavored custom bend from Adagio, which has inspired me to hunt down other teas with almond flavor. I’d heard good things about this company, so thought I’d give this a shot.

The dry leaves smell like sweet, strong marzipan. I notice the previous reviewer mentioned seeing what look like coconut flakes mixed in with the leaves. I’m not 100% sure what they are – wish The Necessiteas mentioned them in their description – but I suspect they might actually be bits of dried marzipan.

At any rate, this tea does have a nice almond flavor. The aroma of the dry leaf was a bit too strong, but it calmed down once the tea was steeped. This is definitely a cream-and-sugar tea; without the sugar the bitterness of the black tea clashes a bit with the almond.

Worth a try if you like marzipan.

Wow, why did I not review this sooner? I absolutely adore this tea when I get an intensive almond craving. Not the earthy nutty almond, but the “I need marzipan NOW” sweet almond. And coconut! It’s hard for me to pinpoint where the almond ends and the coconut begins but regardless. Almond doesn’t feel like a background flavor for this, it’s sweet, almond, with a touch of black tea.
