I love peppermint tea, so I tend to give peppermint teas higher scores. For this peppermint from Teekanne, it should be one of those in the lower end of my “peppermint rating system”. I was alarmed when I saw the dark brown liquor cos I had never seen anything like that before! (Seriously, does anyone know why the colour could be that deep even though the ingredient was pure peppermint?) The tea was very minty – the coolness lingered on my tongue for a few seconds after each sip – but at the same time I could taste some bitterness :( Kinda weird to me… It’s not a really bad tea but it simply confused me!

As for the tea itself, it was pretty typical bagged peppermint. Not as great a fresh-picked mint, but I’ve had much staler, dull tasting mints.
The ass-kicker of all peppermint teas, and one of those longest in production. This tea has been around long before World Wars and our grandparents. Its a moroccan style mint tea— in other words it can be brewed as strong as coffee and sweetened to the point that it would keep any dentist in business.
You may opt to brew it long or short, and its mintiness will expand or dimish accordingly. I generally find one tea bag strong enough to make a full liter of tea.
Medicinally-speaking this tea is wonderful for an upset stomach and will even mildly numb a toothache, there’s that much peppermint oil in the infusion. I use it as an oncoming cold remedy, and even herbalist medicine says ‘it works!’
Too lazy to brew loose leaf right now, having woken up a scant 2 hours ago. I really need to stop staying up so late, haha. Anyway, I got this from a German bakery over the Christmas holiday when we were visiting my Dad’s side of the family. I’ve never had just peppermint, I’ve had it in blends before though.
Oh wow, I’m a bit surprised at how dark the brew is. It almost looks like a black tea, but the box says that there’s only peppermint, nothing else. Huh. The taste isn’t spectacular, but it’s nice. Most of the mint flavor is in the aftertaste unless you slurp it, which I don’t tend to do too often. It’s helping to wake me up though, and that’s all I really needed.
