From Teavivre

Origin: Fuding City, Fujian Province, China

Ingredients: Evenly and tightly rolled tea leaves

Taste: sweet-sour strawberry fragrance, with Oolong tea’s mellow flavor

Talking about the making of this Strawberry Oolong Tea, the natural extractives from strawberry are added after the Oolong tea is made, in order to keep the original flavor of Oolong tea, and ensure that both the strawberry fragrance and Oolong tea’s unique flavor can be tasted. The Oolong tea leaves of this tea is picked and produced in traditional methods. After the Oolong tea leaves are shaped, the strawberry extractives are then added.

This tea is SO GOOD. Is it possible for Teavivre to make a bad tea?? I mean, is it possible? I’m sure that there is someone out there that has drunk certain teas and hated them, but…………they are weird, so I don’t care about that.

I opened the bag and was greeted with a lovely whiff of strawberry. The Oolong was also present, but not overpowering—very, very light.

Steeping I made enough for two large cups (always) and the strawberry scent decreased only slightly, and was tantalising.

I was expecting a darker liquor on this one, but the colour was a golden colour, as are most, if not all, of the Teavivire Oolongs I’ve drank. That is no problem, of course—I do prefer lighter coloured teas, since they usually taste lighter, and are often flavoured. It’s just interesting since a friend of mine who likes Oolong, has only ever had “dark, deep” Oolong tea. I don’t know if I’ve ever had that, so I wonder what the difference is. It’s probably amazing, either way.

The taste is loaded with strawberry. It’s a full, very obvious strawberry flavour, with a sweet aftertaste, and an almost fuzzy mouthfeel. It’s smooth, and the flavour is just incredible. I didn’t take this one with cream, but I am wondering if it’ll do well. I’ll try it and see, for sure.

Now off to make another cup, unless someone got to it before me…

P.S: Got any other good strawberry teas that you love? Or how about Strawberries and Cream? Comment, I need some recommendations! :)

P.S.S: Teavivire also has great service—I get emails every so often asking if my packages have arrived, to check if they are in good condition and if I am satisfied. I like that they want to know, and take care to make sure I get what I want. It’s a great way to keep customers coming back. Thanks, Teavivire!

This is one of the samples i got from my Teavivre order. It’s very similiar to Tealux’s strawberry oolong. I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two.

It has a very subtle strawberry flavour that just goes perfectly with the nutty buttery oolong. The strawberry flavour becomes a little stronger as the tea cools but nothing overdone. It goes perfectly in my fine bone strawberry coloured china cup I bought today at the flea market. I am so spoiled.

I stretched this sample out as long as I could, but this is the last of it (tears). This is such an under-sung tea. So good, so natural, so green-oolongish- with-a-kiss-of-mountain-strawberry. I’ll just have to buy some more, but I need to drink some of these other teas first.

AllanK

I should be getting a sample of this from Angel at Teavivre. If you rate it at 100% I am excited to try it. It’ll be a couple of weeks though.

Tamarindel

Oooo, I hope you like it! I really love it, but I don’t want to give you the wrong expectations, because it’s not like one of those really strong-flavored teas that knock you out of the park. That’s sort of what I like about it, actually. It’s oolong first and foremost and the strawberry is a nice accent — it seems like so many flavored teas are all about the flavoring and you can barely pick out the actual tea underneath it all.

Tamarindel

p.s. If I remember correctly, Teavivre wrote their oolong steeping instructions at WAY too high a temperature, and of course that makes the tea astringent and weird. I just did 180-185 F, which is pretty normal for oolongs, and it was great.

AllanK

They wrote their Da Hong Pao instructions the same way, boiling water but I didn’t brew it like that.

Tamarindel

Good thinking! I don’t why they write such mad instructions.

Thank you Scheherazade for this sample.
I am absolutely sorry to belong to the minority who doesn’t like this tea. I can’t really feel the Oolong base and the Strawberry taste is very subtle.
As an Oolong lover I am a little disapointed not loving this one. Having said that this is my second Stawberry Oolong and the second I didn’t like. So it may be the point.

:( maybe your sample was old? Mine really tasted like strawberry.

Ysaurella

It was a lovely little sample in a teavivre sachet. I think it was abssolutely ok but really comes from me. I have some teas I just cannot taste like the famous BT Creamy Eggnog. I know everyone loved it and I didn’t, sadly.

Having tea in the Grand Canyon with dragons is fun. The leaves smell so nicely like strawberry. There is more of a floral scent in the brew. I get a light, sweet berry flavour, with floral notes and a mild hint of cream. Better than I remember. Still tastes like Spring.

Thanks to Teavivre for the sample.

I recall liking this one a bit. The strawberry was not too strong…just a hint. So nice. :)

Catchup time!

I drank this a few days ago and it tasted odd. I tasted some strawberry flavour, but underneath it all it tasted like earth. I think I may have got the steeping wrong that time, as I used just-boiling water to steep it. The sample package Teavivre sent actually SAID to use boiling water, and to steep it for 3 minutes, so I followed the instructions.

Now that I’ve brewed it a second time at a different temperature, I realize that was a bad call. This time I used 85° water and did a rinse of about 15-20 seconds to wake up the leaf for my first steep. Then I steeped it for about a minute.

This time, it’s MUCH better. No earthy taste, and while the strawberry flavour is there, it’s not very strong. The first sip was very strawberry-like, but I think my tongue acclimated. Now it’s just nice and relaxing.

That said, I don’t know if I’ll keep this tea in my cupboard once I finish off the sample I got. At least I still have a bunch of other oolong samples to try!

I want to preface this by mentioning that I don’t generally care for flavored teas. They just aren’t… my cup of tea. [sic] But when Angel offered to send this Strawberry Oolong with some other samples, I wanted to give it a try and see if perhaps my tastes had changed or perhaps this was an exception to my “rule”.

The tea itself smells exclusively of strawberry to me. But it’s not a sugary, candy-like strawberry. It’s a natural smell.

Following a brief rinse, I gave it a 15 second infusion and it smelled faintly of sweet strawberries and had a slight buttery aroma. The tea is super light and certainly is not overpowering in any sense. It is pretty easily one of the best flavored teas I’ve had to date.

The second infusion was a little less sweet and there was more emphasis on the buttery/creamy flavor. In a way, it made me think of eating pancakes with a strawberry puree at a local diner here in town. The strawberry flavor is definitely still there and adds a nice extra touch.

The third infusion is where the strawberry really starts to fade and you get a little astringency from the oolong. Overall, I would like to try this as a single full cup from a single, longer infusion. I think I’ll do that next time and let you know how it goes.

My samples from Teavivre came today! I was not expecting such a large bag, but I think I’m going to be very happy for it. I couldn’t resist brewing one up right away.

This smells delightfully fruity both dry and brewed. The taste is much more subtle than I expected from the smell, but it’s delicious and I wouldn’t change it. The taste that comes first is actually the oolong, with a freeze-dried strawberry taste coming afterward. The oolong itself is green but has a little bit of the roastiness I would expect in a darker oolong. The mouthfeel is amazingly juicy, and I’m liking it more with each sip. This isn’t a fruit oolong that whacks you over the head with the fruit flavor, but everything blends together in a delicious way.

I love getting samples from Teavivre. Something about the neat packaging makes me happy, haha :)
