It’s safe to say that this is my favorite green tea, and it never ceases to amaze me. There’s nothing more relaxing to me than a properly prepared mug of this stuff. Soon I’ll be trying Teavivre’s Superfine Pre-Ming Dragonwell and I really look forward to it.

This and jasmine dragon pearls are amazing. A year ago I would have sworn I wouldn’t like either.

Scatterbrain

I haven’t had Teavivre’s pearls yet but I’m sure they’re good. I think my favorite greens overall are still Japanese but all I’ve had are a few senchas and banchas, I really need to try a gyokuro and some matcha.

Thanks to Tabby for sharing this with me!! : )

Green teas started my love of loose leaf tea. Green tea is the reason my dog is called Sencha. Green teas taught me that time and temperature in steeping are very important. Most significantly green teas taught me that quality makes a HUGE difference. I had almost forgotten about why I loved green tea so much until I tried this one.

The large green leaves smell fresh with a hint of sea weed. It makes your eyes pop wide open, the smell alone alerts you that you are in for a treat! The package reomends that you steep 1-2 teaspoons per cup. Since the leaves were so large, I opted for 2tsp.

They were beautiful to watch steep. The water turning golden green and the leaves expanding is borderline magical. The smell was hypnotizing. Mineral sea weed goodness!

The taste was exactly what I was hoping for. Sweet creamy sensation up front followed by a mineral wave ending on a pleasant seaweed note. The vegetable was toned down under the mineral (in my opinion, the way it should be!) Delicious first brew. One of the best I have had in a while!

The second steep was a little too watered down for my taste. I enjoyed it, but the with the sweetness and mineral flavor toned down, it was more of a ghost of what the first cup was.

I love this tea! Sadly, I just placed my order from Teavivre and didn’t include this… I guess that a second order will be necessary soon! : )

I had this recently, too, and it is one of the best Long Jing’s I have had (especially for the price).

I got this in a swap with Queen of Tarts and I’m still trying to figure out how to make it work for me. Right now I’ve found the tea works best on the lowest temperature setting on my kettle (below the green). I’ve also found I have to steep my tea a minute or under or else it gets too bitter too quickly.

But I’m still trying to figure out the ideal leaf for 8 oz of water. Teavivre says 7g which seems awfully high! I’ve been using 4-ish which isn’t bad. I don’t know. I want to make sure I’m getting the most out of it.

What have everyone else’s experiences been with this tea?

TheTeaFairy

I love this tea! My favourite way of brewing it is Verdant style. I’ve learned a lot from them on how to brew and the tall tempered glass method is my favorite for pretty much all green teas now. Look at their videos, very insightful!

My thanks to Teavivre for the sample!

The dry leaves look green, freshly cut and smell faintly nutty. I’m really looking forward to steeping this – hurry up kettle!

This tastes a little like toasted nuts to me. I’m also getting a light freshly cut hay note followed by the vegetal wallop. Somewhat-light with a buttery texture.

I’m on the fence about this one. I’ll have to see what other steepings and cups are like – thanks to Angel for the generous size that allows me to do so!

Edit: Revisited this one and steeped for just over a minute. Beautiful light flavour – like an elegant vegetable broth, if there is such a thing. Flavour present to the 4 steep, where it starts to diminish.

Edit 2: Found out that I really enjoy this cold or cooling. No astringency present like I thought there would be.

The free sample explosion continues.

I have to confess to always preferring Japanese shaded green teas to most Chinese varieties. Some of the pan fired options bring an interesting, roasted note, but otherwise I tend to find them very flat.

Dragon Well are always the exception to this trend. In fact, I find that most Dragon Well taste very similar to a Japanese shaded green tea — bright, green vegetal notes, a hint of ocean water tang, and high mountain air. Nothing brown, roasted or floral going on here and that’s the way I like it.

Once again, Teavivre is providing exceptional value for money with the quality of what they have on offer. I have to say that so far I am extremely impressed with the amount of flavor in the cup for what their website tells me they charge for these teas.

I am a fan of the Japanese shaded green teas as well. Gyokuro was my first love in the world of tea. The one that just opened everything up for me. I most recently enjoyed the Shaded Leaf Kabusecha by Mellow Monk, which is very good and worth trying if you have a chance. I’ll have to look through your backlog of notes sometime to find leads on worthwhile shaded greens to try.

Jim Marks

I was drinking a lot of shaded greens from TeaGeschwendner’s Edmond’s collection back some time ago. But the more tea distributors I find, the less and less price competitive TG seems to be — they claim of course to be selling only the best of the best, but I have tasted very few teas from them that justify the price point compared to what I can get from other vendors.

My most recent shaded greens came directly from Japan as my wife was over there doing field work this past Summer.

Geoffrey

Seeing that… “Today TeaGschwendner has more than 130 shops in seven countries on four continents…” I think it’s safe to assume a significant percentage of their price point can be put off on paying for the massive overhead of their operation. I get the same sense about Samovar, based on reports I’ve heard.

Jim Marks

The annoyance with that is that TG only has, as far as I know right now, only two of those retail shops in the USA. The original in Chicago and a very recently opened one in Manhattan. I believe the other six countries are all in the EU.

The Tea Show

You really nailed this one.

The DJBooth

Ocean water….I like that comparison!

My husband and I are not too enthusiastic about drinking green tea, but this one has certainly charmed us. It’s not that we don’t like green tea, but we’d usually rather drink oolong or black teas. That being said, I like brewing up a pot of this a few days out of the week. It’s also a very easy tea to brew, it never turns out bad even when I let it steep too long (oops!). Based on the flavour and price, this is our favourite green tea and we will probably buy more in the future.

Thanks to Angel at Teavivre, for offering to send me their wonderful teas to sample. This is the 2011 version, but the 2012 version is in transit. I used the max recommended (2 tsp. and did a quick rinse for 1st steeping).

Having tried other dragonwell greens before, I really wasn’t expecting to like this. But with the first sip, I absolutely fell in love with this version. Very pale yellow in color when brewed, the first sips are very vegetal … sort of like celery, without any sign of bitterness whatsoever. Even a year old by now, this tastes fresh. And it was that part that really impressed me. I consider myself a newbie, but this speaks quality.

2nd steep (increasing 10 degrees, adding 1 minute) produces a slightly stronger brew. The 3rd steeping is still flavorful, and for the first time, the floral aspect comes through.

Thanks to SimpliciTEA for mentioning the 16 oz. glass “cafe mug” at Target (for 2.99 each here). They are made by Anchor and really add to the green tea “experience”. Btw, they also carry Anchor’s 2 quart “Bistro” pitcher, for 5.99, which I picked up to store iced tea (if I ever get that just right).

Highly recommend Teavivre for great service and (so far) very quality teas.

Glad to hear you picked up one of those glass tumblers; I am really loving mine (I did happen to notice they were made in the USA).

If at some point you feel so inclined, I invite you to write a review of Teavivre here http://steepster.com/places/2857-teavivre-online
I still need to update the one I wrote. : }

Will do, after order #2 arrives (different shipping method) … if I remember : )

This tea was sent to me for review by Teavivre.

When I opened the package for this tea, the inside was different. Instead of having small packets of samples inside, there was one large one. It was almost 2-3oz of tea! I had to pour it inside one of my tins.

I love having some dragonwell. This tea had nice medium-sized, flat dry leaves that were bright yellow to bright green in color. There was some buds in there as well! I’m very used to seeing dragonwell in darker green colors than this. It smells like dragonwell! Green and light.

For this tea, I used 2 teaspoons and put it in my kyusu. Once it was brewed, it was a light yellow, green in color. The scent and taste were good. It smelled a little grassy and tasted as such. It was a little savory. Overall the it was a light, clean tea that went down smoothly. There was some sweetness to it. This is a good dragonwell. This is similar to other dragonwells that I’ve tried, but I haven’t tried them side by side. I might do that this week as I have this week off. :)

It’s a beautiful morning! And it’s just the perfect morning for some green tea. I’ve been in a gorgeous mood lately partly due to these steroids I’ve been on for this crazy skin rash I got a few weeks ago. At first I was on a very high dose and was extremely moody. One second I was happy and laughing, the next I was very depressed and crying for no reason. I don’t think the steroids and my anxiety go very well together. Anyhow my dose is much lower now and I’ve just got tons of energy without the extreme mood swings. Woohoo!

I wanted so badly to put up my Christmas tree yesterday. I know I know, it’s too early! But hear me out. When Nathan (boyfriend) and I bought it three years ago it was our first Christmas together and we were living in Texas at the time. I’ll never forget that part of our life together. Everything was so new and we were so fearless and free. So far away from our families having this crazy adventure together in Texas. We were so unbelievably happy even though things were tougher back then. That was the best Christmas of my life. Just me, Nathan, and Nixon (our first rat). No stress over where we had to be on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day – just the three of us together enjoying the holiday in our pajamas. We had a great Christmas too. Nathan got me a Zune HD and I got him a PS3. Nixon got a brand new cage and tons of stuff to fill it with. I’d just love to go back to that time.

The next year we were living with my parents after having just moved back home from Texas so our tree was in storage. And it sat there all through the holiday season. This year I can’t wait to get that tree out and put it up! I don’t think three or four weeks to enjoy it will be enough this year! So I don’t care what anyone says, that tree is going up either tomorrow or the next day. Ahhh…memories

I’ve been making everything I can get my hands on in my gaiwan lately so of course I opted for gaiwan style here this morning. I’ve got time to really sit back and enjoy making this tea. I was a little surprsied by the brewing guide on Teavivre’s website. 4 steeps: rinse, 20s,40s,1m20s,2m. Only four steeps? And such long last steeps? I think I’m just going to wing this one because 2 minutes seems like a long time.

I really like this green. It’s so easy to drink. It’s just the right amount of vegetal goodness without any bitterness at all. It’s very smooth, relaxing, even a little buttery.

I’m on the fifth steep now and I’ve steeped this one for about 40 seconds. The wet leaves smell like spring time and look like fresh cut grass. The liquor is smiling yellow and it makes me really happy. The taste is a bit light (I’ll steep longer on the next one) but still very good. I’m finding a little nuttiness in this steep which is interesting. Something I hadn’t noticed before.

On to steep number six and I’m going to let this one go for a whole minute and see what happens. Learning how to use my gaiwan is so much fun to me. I’ve finally realized that you don’t need to be perfectly strict about the whole thing, trying to time everything down to the exact second per the steeping suggestions. I can just sorta go with the flow. It’s fun because you really learn about the tea this way by experiencing it in different layers. Seeing what a few extra seconds or grams will do to change the overall experience. A minute was a nice choice here. The nuttiness is coming out more and that smooth profile is getting a little more grassy. Delicious!

Okay, I should have given this a shot earlier. It took me a long time to get around to it, as I “don’t like” Dragon Well. But this is really quite nice. It’s sweet, warm, nutty, and very smooth. Definitely the best Dragon Well I’ve tried, though my experience hasn’t been extensive since for some reason most turn me off. Thanks to Teavivre for the sample and opening me up to trying more Dragon Well!

Indigobloom

funny how the same tea from different vendors can be so different!!

Daddyselephant

We just got a second round of samples from TeaVivre and I believe this was in it…I’m excited for De to try it, maybe we’ll share a pot tonight!

Tina S.

I need to finish trying and blogging my first box still. I should do that tonight, esp since I had a crap sencha earlier today.
