Pure Wuyi Que She 雀舌 or “Sparrow’s Tongue” is relatively hard to find in the western market. It’s leaves are small and shaped like a sparrow’s tongue. Due to its low yields and status as a pure Wuyi cultivar, it commands a high price. This tea is mouth watering, rich with a creamy orchid scented fragrance, the aftertaste lingers around the cheeks & in the throat. It is grown within the Wuyi protected reserve and is hence “zhengyan”. Enjoy it’s incredible yan yun 岩韵 or “cliff feeling” which derives from the rich minerals soils of Wuyishan.

A sample of this tea was in my Christmas present from sweet Marzipan :D

The only other Sparrow’s Tongue I’ve had was a tightly rolled very green version. Totally different from this! This one is all creamy and roasty and has a pleasant mineral finish. Extremely faint glimpses of floral notes peek through occasionally. Generally I prefer greener oolongs but this is a nice change for me.
