From Tealyra

An age old tradition handed down from generation to generation, our imperial jasmine dragon pearls are the best you can buy. Crafted in Fujian province in china, organically grown aromatic night blooming jasmine flowers are layered between fresh young green tea leaves and buds eight to ten times infusing the tea with their distinct and exquisite floral aroma. The jasmine infused tea is then rolled at a ratio of two leaves to one unopened bud into small “pearls”. Unique in flavor, jasmine is a one of a kind floral taste, incredibly delicate yet bold simultaneously. While being infused in your cup, our imperial jasmine dragon pearls showcase the traditional craftsmanship while the gorgeous pearls unfurl majestically, releasing the perfect blend of delicate jasmine and luxury grade green tea.

I encountered these in my constant search and trials of Jasmine teas. Price was good and smell upon open was pleasant and inviting, more sweet than floral. I am able to get 2 rich steeps out using a 4 oz Gaiwan and 5-6 minute steeps. 3 steeps is pushing it. The taste is sweet and ‘toasty’ – lacking the vegetal quality of typical greens – quite satisfying and never exhibiting any astringency. The tin has stayed at my office as my ‘back-up’ for when I forget to bring anything else or just want to mix it up during the day. I’ve come to look forward to these in that capacity and would reorder it as an alternative.

I’m been falling back alot on these lately, just because I have a bag at hand, and really, it’s a staple, I should just move it to a tin next time I restock. I usually don’t feel the need to review jasmine teas, they’re so normal, and this one is just about as run of the mill as most of the others. I like watching these unfurl in my steeper, and I usually resteep these a minimum of three times, for me that’s just about when they open up fully.

Today I did 1.5 tsp/16oz rather than my normal 1 tsp/16oz because I was feeling generous. The addition makes it more green tea tasting, rather than letting the floral jasmine carry the tea. It’s nice on the occasion, but the jasmine tealyra uses is nice. Its floral, but more on the sweet side of floral rather than perfume-y.

It amuses me that the package says 1tsp/8oz, the effect of that much tea/water is a bit too much for the depth of this tea, I would rather underleaf this than overleaf.
