NEW SPRING HARVEST 2013

LIMITED PRODUCTION

Our Rohini Darjeeling First Flush is one of the finest black teas on the market, and no collection of premium quality black teas will be complete without it!

If you have previously enjoyed our Margaret’s Hope wonder-tea, then you will certainly enjoy Rohini Darjeeling First Flush, as it comes very close to it! Harvested from the first flush, the leaves that compose this tea were hand picked on the 2nd March, and processed on the 3rd March.

If you seek the elixir of rich, luxurious liquor-like Darjeeling, then this is the perfect brew for you. Rohini Darjeeling First Flush doesn’t quite fit the usual mould of first flush teas, possessing elements such as a deeper, richer flavor and more complex aroma that is more usually associated with second flush Darjeelings, while retaining the fresh, full body of first flush offerings. With its rich, multi-layered taste, Rohini Darjeeling truly is a unique and infinitely drinkable Darjeeling.

Another tea from the Teafairy! I’m neaaaarly getting close to finishing off the rest of the teas she sent me. It’s mostly the flavoured teas that i have left which is always fun :) I’ve been focusing on the unflavoured teas because that sample container was overflowing a little. This one is ok. I have a hard time with darjeelings so they’re often more miss than hit with me. This one is light and refreshing but not quite the tea for me. However, nice to try :) thanks teafairy!

The Tealux tour continues, sponsored by Virginia! This tea is an eclectic mix of small twists and flakes in shades of greens and browns that smell quite grapey. They brew up a very light sienna. The taste is not what I would expect from a first flush darjeeling. It’s way more grape-like than the first flushes I’ve had before in my limited experience, but it’s not as “dark” tasting as the second flushes I’ve had. There’s also subtle, almost hidden, notes of hay and florals. It’s kind of an interesting hybrid darjeeling.

This is a wonderful tea. I liked it best steeped for 2.5 minutes at 90-95 C. The mild floral sweetness of the bouquet only hints at the muscat grape flavour. With just a touch of unpasteurized honey, this became my go-to tea for morning and mid-afternoons.

Although labelled a ‘black tea’, like many first flush Darjeeling teas, it is far more akin to an oolong.

Big loose green leaves scented strongly with vegetal and floral notes, while strongly suggesting the winey scent i’ve read about.

Previous brews were disappointing, so I used 2 tsp per cup of water, and brewed this time at 205F for 4 minutes. The resulting tea was richly colored of straw, almost orange, but definitely yellow.

A mild sweet scent wafted off the bright clear liquor, not at all indicative of the full flavor to some with the first sip. The floral sweetness of the brew surfaces first, giving way to the soft taste of buttered toast. The flavor of lingers on in the mouth, growing and becoming larger until the next sip resets the flush of tastes.

While labelled as a black tea, this one definitely recalls some of the bet Oolongs i’ve tasted in terms of scent, color, and taste.

I’ll savor this one as long as my 100g lasts!
