From teakruthi

Pure Ceylon Black tea (OP1) · Mint leaves
Loose leaf · From Kandy region · Good for Iced tea

This refreshing tea is steeped in tradition. Our Zen Mint blend was harvested from the Kandy District and refined in a factory established there in 1950. Kandy was the last redoubt of the Sri Lankan Kings. The area is accessible only through steep mountain passes, and its isolation has ensured the preservation of the cultural traditions of the Sinhalese people for centuries. From this historical place, once an important centre of Buddhism, this fresh, spicy, cool tea has taken root and flourished. When you sip this tea, enriched with mint leaves and orange in colour, you will take a walk through time.

Mint lovers rejoice. Black tea lovers rejoice! If you were looking for the perfect marriage between the two, this is it. The golden amber liquor shines but the aroma of the dry leaf and the wet leaf dazzles the senses and calms the soul. The dry aroma is strong with mint. It’s overwhelming. Mint to the face! The wet leaf aroma tones it down a bit with woodsy notes but the zap of mint in your nose is enlightening. The flavor is much of the same. Wet wood notes and the tang of mint. Palate will feel slight astringency and freshness all at the same time.

Finally trying the last of my Teakruthi samples. I would have expected a stronger mint smell. I can only taste the tiniest hint of mint. The black tea is high quality and tasty, though. So it’s a fine tea, but not at all what you would think.

additional notes:  I really liked this unique mint black.  Seemed smooth and creamy, even if the mint got a bit catnippy.  No spelling autocorrect for “catnippy”?  Oh wait, it did that time. hhmm.   As much as I would love to order from Teakruthi again, I’m still traumatized by their live bug infestation in their hibiscus tea blends incident from a couple years ago…  I don’t see a couple of those available on their site anymore though, so maybe that solved the problem.

Their what incident?? Oh lord, new fear unlocked.

tea-sipper

Um, just dozens of living bugs in their pouches of hibiscus teas. Believe me, I have never had this incident before or since. I had a ton of their samples, so I made sure to pour each tea onto a paper plate to check for movement and never saw it in other teas. (whew) And the people at Teakruthi are awesome, as far as their customer service goes, so I really wish that hadn’t have happened to teakruthi. This was years ago though, so I hope that problem has not been recent!

Nattie

Oh no, I wonder how something like that happens?! I hope it didn’t negatively affect their business too much.

Thanks to AJRimmer for the sample! Advent day #2

This is such an odd tea. It tastes like a wintermint/spearmint type tea but with a black tea base. It reminded me of wintermint lifesavers.

Flavors: Menthol, Mint, Spearmint

My review from their website: As far as mint teas go, this is top notch. It smells so strongly of spearmint in the leaf that I was surprised when I drank the tea just how much the tea flavor comes through. Mint and tea are both distinct and yet balanced and harmonious. This can be a bit sharp for some which makes the tea come off a little metallic at first but if you get past the initial strength of both the mint and tea, it is really quite smooth and relaxing.

Thank you for sharing teakruthi
