From TeaGschwendner

Anticipation runs high each spring as Darjeeling drinkers patiently await the first tea of the season. This annual ritual, known as the First Flush, is pure tea magic. This year, we offer a tiny lot from our friends at the Soom garden, plucked during the second week of March. Among the most respected names in Darjeeling First Flush, Soom means “triangle” in the local Lepcha language—an allusion to both the shape of the land and the majesty of the towering peaks that serve as its backdrop. The bright, sunshine yellow cup and herbaceous, floral profile perfectly capture the spirit of renewal in the Himalayas.

Good cup for a bit surfing around after some shopping & eating in the city. Its typical Darjeeling aromas are somewhat subtle, but once you “learn” to taste them they are delicious. As usual for such first-season teas lacking a bit in depth, but instead got plenty of “freshness” :)

I was lucky to get a sample of this tea with my recent TeaGschwendner order and it is an excellent specimen of a First Flush Darjeeling indeed. The sample was kinda on the smaller side but I enjoyed it immensely till the very last drop.

The tea tastes lighter than average FF Darjeeling, even subtle I would say but is extremely well balanced, with a lot of flowery and muscatel notes and just the right amount of astringency. Some dry metallic notes are present as well but are not overpowering at all. And the most important for me is that the brew doesn’t have any sweetness or nuttiness to it which makes it very refreshing to drink.

The price is steep but the tea is well worth it.
