A brilliant small leaf green tea with a high proportion of tips from a small family plantation in the famous Taoist mountain Laoshan in Shangdong province, who by the way also produces our exquisit LAOSHAN BADGER. The small curled dry leaves smell nutty and vegetal. When brewed, the tea has a sweet, refreshing and complex taste, with notes of spinach, kelp, roasted chestnuts and peas, as well as a touch of umami. An exciting and satisfying green tea.

teabento gets me every time with the cute animal shapes! This one reminds me of Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon. :3

I see the resemblance! There are a bunch of new critters on teabento’s website! Most very sweet, of course. Ii would be great if their creatures were stamped on their packets, or otherwise imposed. Maybe that is expensive to do with packaging.

1433 tasting notes

All the offerings from Teabento’s green tea sample pack have been hits for me, falling in the 75-85 range, and this one isn’t an exception. I prefer it more than their Dragonwell and Jasmine Pearls, and maybe slightly less than the Kamairicha, Uji Sencha and Daejak. It’s flavourful sweet, nutty, vegetal profile has been my friend these last couple early mornings and evenings.

I’ll be sad when I’m out! It was such a novelty to have so many delicious unflavoured green teas in the cupboard. Besides this, only Lonely Saola is left and it’s smoky!

Typical Laoshan green flavours in this tea – some nutty (chestnut, soybean) and vegetal (bok choy, steamed snap peas). Light sweetness. Overall it was a really nice cup, but I wouldn’t drink it regularly (too green for me).

1500 tasting notes

Whoa. This is a bold, complex green tea.

The steeped tea smells like the bagged (not fresh) roasted chestnuts that I get whenever I’m in a Chinatown around North America. This is a good thing – I love those chestnuts! I used to eat them by the bagful… uh.. moving on.

There’s also a lot of vegetal notes in this tea. I taste… peas? A bit of grassiness, and some sweet notes, too. In the description there’s also unami, and I definitely get that as the tea cools, it becomes the primary note.

A lovely tea. Not one I’d reach for every day like I did the chestnuts, although I might if it were piping pot and I needed a green tea.
