Mang Zhi 2011 Autumn sheng

This tea is progressing along nicely in Aug. 2022. This is from a 30g sample of the tea stored in a drawer of sheng puer in northern coastal California. Early steeps provide a hay like note but one that is “deeper” than young sheng, and has a dark note as well. The tea deepens as the steeps continue, and now on steep 5 in a clay pot a touch of forest and bitterness arises. It tastes good, and has good salivary activity for me. I will keep the rest of the tea and try it again in a few years, although it is quite nice at present.

Pu’erh TTB 2015 Tea #15

I’ve had less than a handful of TeaUrchin teas which has been different than my experience with everyone else. This is one of the few sheng that I can say has no notes of bitterness which makes me a happy camper right now. Also, this one is high in caffeine. I drink a lot of tea throughout the day but once I began drinking this today I had a spike of energy. This is a rather nice tea with just a pure taste and no bitterness. No smoke or wood, just great. I wish it had a little ‘wild’ to it though.

I’ve been enjoying this tea all afternoon, even into the evening.
The first couple of steeps were a sweet meadow. There was a slightly soapy taste mid-tongue, but otherwise it was very nice, & in the following steeps it was gone.
Throughout all steeping, the taste was of olive leaf, with a shiny clean sensation, & a satisfying tanginess, gradually getting a little sweeter with each cup.
The taste didn’t really change otherwise, but it was good, so that didn’t really matter.
No major tea buzz, but a pleasant tea to spend my afternoon with.

Another excellent Sheng from Eugene and Belle at Tea Urchin. I have to agree with Stephanie and DP’s review on tea Urchin. The soup is a very nice golden color. The first few steepings produced a very nice vegetal taste with just a hint of kuwei and astringency, and I do mean a hint. Later steepings transitioned to a much sweeter taste with a nice honey undertone. To keep the tea as strong as I like it I did have to increase my steeping times on the later steeps. Over all, an excellent Sheng that is well worth the money. Well done Tea Urchin!

I have been drinking the same leaves all day, but didn’t have time at work to take detailed notes on each steep. The steeps did get progressively sweeter and more honey-like. There is some slight tongue tingle, but not much. A little tiny bit of woodiness, with some crisp vegetal flavors. When I did a long steep I got a pleasant, light sort of bitterness. I’m excited to explore this one further :)
