From Tea Mountain

Just like in 2019 and 2020, when we bought our great big cake Wu Fu Lin Yun Gu Shu Shen Beeng from the old trees of Nan Ben village in Mengsong and then bought small 8g pressed balls last year, we were very pleased with the spring teas from this village. High in the mountains, about 300 years old tea trees, from which our teas come, grow wild in a clean environment. Until recently, the area was completely inaccessible and no road led to the village of Nanben Lao Zhai. Therefore, the local nature is still preserved, clean, tea is harvested only twice a year and the price for high quality material is still favorable compared to other areas. To the sheng puerhs from 2019 and 2020 and this year’s white tea, which come from the spring harvest, we added another piece, this time in the form of a small 200g cake. The tea is hardly interchangeable due to its characteristics and faithfully copies other teas from this beautiful place. Like all young spring teas, it is energetic, pleasantly sweet with a beautiful honey-flowered taste. It is therefore very pleasant to drink, clean, elegant, full, dense and honey-sweet. The aroma is clean, more pronounced floral, with a hint of rich fruit. The aftertaste stays on the palate for a long time, it is sweet and intense. The effect on the body is moderately strong, rather slightly energizing, pleasant.

Meng Song shengs are consistently among my favourites and that includes this one too. I just love the complex, cooling nature of the tea with many floral and bitter notes; its sweet and fragrant aftertaste; as well as the thick and oily texture.

Dry leaves smell of leather and warm grass, while wet ones more like a mix of unfiltered beer, compost, and wild garlic.

The taste has a really good depth already from the first steep. There are notes of vegetables, butter, menthol, apple; and a really good huigan to top it off. Middle part of the session is dominated by sweet and bitter flavours including citrus zest, IPA, apple must and others. The aftertaste additionally shows hints of mushrooms, honey, wood, and bubble gum. There is a floral sourness to it that complements the sweetness nicely.
