From Taiwan Tea Crafts

This is possibly the easiest black tea to drink in our selection. It is very distinctive and unique in taste and, might we add, rare! It is made from a wild tea strain indegenous to Taiwan called: Shan Cha (mountain tea). There’s nothing bold or brash about this tea, we are not in the same category as powerful assams. This is a subtle charming tea, yet extremely satisfying, with a good body and with surprising stamina! The taster will be greeted with a pleasant aroma of baked oats with buttered sweetness and a discreet floral note of wild rose will charm the nose as soon as the leaves are heated by the boiling water. The liqueur is all smoothness with a light refreshing quench. The taste is all pleasant and round with evocations of pastries and baked sweets with fruit compote notes similar to japanese white peaches. This October 2019 production proposes an intriguing yet subtle spicy character that hints on anise and cinnamon. What surprises the palate is the inviting suppleness of this tea that makes you want to drink cup after cup after cup. If black is not your usual cup, this is the tea that will convert you! This is a must try tea! This very fresh Lot will improve with time and be at its peak during the winter of 2020.

Y is for… Yuchi Wild Mountain Black, Lot 864

Thank you Sil for sharing!

This one is good. At first I was like this is super jammy and sweet. But then as I kept drinking I was getting more fresh baked bread. Maybe sweet potato that’s slightly caramelized. Whatever it was, it was delicious! Yum!

Courtney

Looove this one, so glad you got to enjoy it as well! :)

Sil

it’s consistently delicious. I’ll let you know when/if i order more…likely be a large bulk order

Leafhopper

I’ve ordered this tea, but haven’t tried it yet. Sounds great!

Cannot believe i’m so far in to the 250g of this i bought. Seriously. Wtf. I think covid has me drinking way more tea than before. Thankfully this is a good one.

Courtney

I drink 250g of this every year XD. I’s my only ‘annual order’ hahaha.

Sil

courtney – i hear you..but like i received the 250g in october and assuming i had all of oct, nov, dec to drink it (3 months) i went from 250g to 140. sooooo at this rate i could be needing another 250g lol.

Sil

never mind the oher tea i had vast quantities of that i’ve since mostly sipped down. ugh. covid = tea drinking crazy!

Courtney

Hahaha, I understand completely! Yeah, I have to ration a bit because I refuse to do more than one order/year XD. Covid really has me drinking tea like crazy too — I feel like the kettle is constantly on.

I steeped one cup of each lot (641 & 864) then forgot about them until they were lukewarm.

Lot 864: Maltiness and oat-y with a hint of a savoury note mixed in at first sip, a hint of sweetness and no astringency. As it cools more, notes of floral come through, very subtle.

Lot 641: Maltiness and oat-y with a hint of sweetness in the background mid-sip, absolutely no astringency at first sip. I would say this one has the barest hint of floral as it cools (a little sooner noticeable) and some fruits in the background, though I can’t say which fruits.

Overall, very similar in taste with only the barest hint of difference, at least at this temperature. I have only a limited amount of 641 remaining, so I’ll have to postpone more thoughts until I steep these two the next time around!

Crowkettle

That does sound like different harvest times and possibly sections. This is reassuring!

Sil

i think 2015 is the one year i wasn’t a fan of for tea and wine lol
