From Taiwan Tea Crafts

Charcoal Roasting is the traditional way to bake or roast tea. Today, all roasting is done using electric ovens or roasting pits for convenience. But the traditional way is to place bamboo sleeves filled with finished tea on top of pits of fired charcoal. It is easy to guess that charcoal will confer a distinctive taste to the tea and the skill of the tea master is fundamental in obtaining a good result. These teas are now very rare, at least the good ones, simply because there are not so many people left on this planet that master this art. One of our resident Tea Masters has perfected this art that was handed down to him from 2 generations of Tea Finishers. Working from quality higher-oxidized oolong tea, this Lot was coal fired to perfection. If you expect a mouthful of smoky dryness, you’ll be surprised at how sweet and mellow this tea is! This tea will store very well and is a perfect candidate for ageing. – See more at: http://www.taiwanteacrafts.com/product/family-heritage-charcoal-fired-oolong-tea/#sthash.yHyowxlC.dpuf

this is another from cavocorax from her recently splurge with TTC. Honestly, i highly recommend trying them out – free shipping if your cart only has samples in it and hits a 25$ mark. The samples have enough for several cups of tea without overwhelming your cupboard with a ton of tea!

this is a nice roasty oolong, with that familiar charcoal sort of flavour. it’s not overly intense, which i like. This is a gentler sort of roasty oolong. really nice!
