From SpecialTeas

Genuine Argentine Mate. A cultural drink of ancient origins, Mate is often traditionally enjoyed in a Cuia and sipped from a bombilla.

Rich in vitamins, Mate helps to keep its drinkers healthy and energetic. South Americans enjoy this invigorating, caffeine-bearing herbal infusion socially, as a sign of acceptance and friendship.

Recommendations: Use 1 level tsp. per 6 oz. cup; heat fresh water until first signs of steam (150-160º F); let steep for 7-10 min.

Ingredients: Roasted Mate

Straight up. No sweeteners. No flowers. No chocolate. No frills. Just roasted mate. Plain roasty goodness with all the caffeine to get me through the rest of the work day.

I’ve been using mate just as an additive — will have to work up the gumption to try it straight now.

I purchased this mate because it was really cheap and I wanted to use it to mix with other teas. It’s good for when you want to add a little extra “oomph” to your breakfast tea. I normally mix this half and half with a strong breakfast tea, then steep according to the instructions for the tea. Steeping the mate at a higher temperature doesn’t seem to affect its flavor.
