From Simpson & Vail

This estate is located in the Livingstonia Mountains, at 6800 to 7200 feet above sea level, on the edge of the Great Rift Valley near Lake Nyasain in southern Tanzania. One of the first certified organic gardens in Tanzania, the Luponde tea estate has also been Fairtrade certified since 1994 and Rainforest Alliance certified since 2012.

These black OP leaves open into large brown leaves when brewed with a slight cinnamon spice aroma. The amber cup has a bright taste with a good body and a flavorful slight tobacco taste. This well-balanced cup is a great way to start the day!

The dry leaf smells a bit fruity but the tea brewed up to a light and slightly sweet cup. It was more complex than I expected and the first cup in the pot had an astringent aftertaste. As it cooled down I could detect lingering cinnamon notes. I enjoyed this tea more as I drank each cup from the pot. I can’t remember if I have ever had tea from Tanzania, but I’d purchase this one again.
