Blue Mist Black Tea

Thought I would step outside my comfort zone with this one. I HATE Bananas!!!! I mean HATE them! When I read this had Jackfruit in it – which is supposed to smell like Pineapple and Bananas – I thought I would try it! Here goes…

It smells nice…you can tell Mango and Pineapple but there is a little hint of something else which I will ‘chalk up as’ that banana illusion. Nothing is too over the top to make me change facial expressions but it does have a different sort of aroma, that is for sure!

It’s VERY dark in color.

It tastes like a HOT tropical smoothie. No really floral but fruity and not like Pina Colada but truly unique. Almost like a tropical drink with NO Pineapple, Coconut, or Flowers in it…if you can picture that. It’s much different than ANY flavored black I have tried to date. If you are looking for something different this just may be it.

Okay. Upon another tasting, I can smell a generic fruit smell. I still taste nothing fruity. Still a nice basic tea with a bit of maltiness but I’m going to lower my rating a bit to reflect that I’m not tasting any of the flavors in the description.

I am finally getting around to trying this sample that Nicole was so kind to send me. I accidentally (kind of) fell asleep while I should’ve been studying earlier, so now am a bit groggy and need a tea to wake me up so I can get back to my stacks of homework. This tea has a nice, very light fruity scent. I added a little sweetener to this tea, which seems to help to bring out the faint fruity flavor. As soft as this tea’s flavor is, I don’t think that it would stand up very well to milk. The fruity flavor tastes mostly of mango and apricot to me. Overall, a pretty good cup of tea to wake up from a nap!

-Dry blend has tea leaves and a few twigs with small blue and yellow petals. Petals expand during steeping.
-Dry leaves smell lightly of sweet fruit. Tea liquor aroma is of mangoes.
-Tea liquor is a clear orange color.
-Warm fruity flavor with a somewhat malty undertone. Smooth, honey-like finish.
-Best with a little sweetener. Milk would overshadow delicate flavors.
-Good tea. Sweetener brings out banana flavor. Would be perfect as a fruity iced tea during the summer.

This morning has been extremely sub-optimal. I’ve been sneezing with an incredibly runny nose all morning, which I hope does not mean I’m getting sick (sometimes I just have yucky, sneezy mornings but they don’t turn into anything), but it does mean my head feels clogged up and awful. I forgot my lunch at home so we had to turn around and go back, and Siri set my timer for this tea for 10 minutes instead of 3 like I told her. On the plus side I got a big box of tea last night from brandy3392! This is one I requested in our swap and she was kind enough to send me a nice big sample of it.

The dry leaf smells very tropical, like some mango/passion blends I’ve had even though this doesn’t have any passion fruit in it. I’ve had jackfruit before but not in a very long time so I don’t remember much about it. The black tea base really comes out in the scent after steeping; it’s strong but it smells really good to me, which is odd because I often dislike the scent of stong plain black tea. Wish I knew what the base tea for this was! The tropical fruit scents hang out in the background.

The tea base is strong but malty and smooth. I am actually getting the tiniest hint of bitterness as it cools, but it’s not too bad. I get a distinct mango note in the flavor but the other fruits seem to blend together. That’s fine, it’s like any tropical blended drink really. I finally realized what the black tea base reminds me of, and that’s the base of Upton’s Rose Congou. This tea seems a little darkly floral to me too, but I don’t know if that’s because I’m associating the base with the Rose Congou. Overall a very nice tea and a good way to start the morning. This is a delicious tropical blend. The aroma is similar to the Mango Tango black tea I used to blend (several years ago!), but the taste is quite different. This has such a nice medley of fruit flavors. The mango is the strongest flavor, followed by the apricot. Having not tried a Jackfruit before, I can’t tell you definitively that I can taste “jackfruit” but I do taste a banana-y flavor along with an almost pineapple-ish taste in the background.

But the strongest flavor here is definitely the black tea. It is brisk and tastes really fresh and vibrant.

Found this in the drawer in a baggie. I didn’t even remember it. Read my tasting note from two years ago. Apparently it didn’t impress me back then. Today, the base tea is a really nice black with some good malt notes. The fruit smells tropical but light. Tastes even lighter which I am OK with as I’m not much on tropical flavors. The real problem is it leaves a taste in your mouth. Maybe because its old. Maybe because I just don’t like it. Two years ago when it was fresher I gave it an 80. Today, it wouldn’t be fair to give it a number.

I received a sample from kasumi, I used a little too much water for the amount of leaves I had. dry this smells berry like, a mix of them.
I over steeped it a lil too much and I could smell the astringency and that’s basically all I could taste.
so boo on this one, so rating for now on this one either.

I’m very impressed by this tea. The tea flavor is strong, yet smooth with no bitterness at all. The fruit flavor is very gentle and enhances the flavor of the tea rather than obscuring it. Prepared with stevia.

Before adding water noted the Dark blue-green leaves and bits of flowers. At first sip was surprised to find the floral taste weakened the usual bitterness of black tea, tasting dry, but not over sweet like some floral teas will. This taste was good to the bottom of the cup. On second steep, the same effect was not possible the tea became too weak to create the same taste or color.
