Tried this twice since it had time and temperature instructions, but no instructions for amount of leaf. I tried it first with 1 tsp/8oz and it tasted like water with a faint aftertaste of tea. I tried it again with 3 tsp/8oz and it was much better. Lightly sweet and juicy. It’s a very nice white tea, but I’m not really getting much pear out of it. I don’t really mind, since I’m definitely developing a taste for white tea, but I do really like pear and could see it working really well with this tea, so I do kind of wish the flavor showed up.

Have you tried the oolong paradise from Teavana? I’m waiting for some to arrive in the mail,I hope it will be good.

No, I haven’t. I haven’t really enjoyed the Teavana teas I’ve tried since they tend to have artificial sweeteners.

Backlog:

This is one of my favorite teas that I’ve tried from Simple Loose Leaf. The pear notes are well-defined and taste true to the fruit. The Shou Mei is sweet and hay-like and I like the way these notes play with the pear. It’s a smooth tea, no bitterness and no astringency. A very flavorful white tea – a really good pear tea! I’d highly recommend this one to those who are looking for the ‘right’ pear tea.

I have a confession, I am a little afraid of this tea, I have never had a pear tea that I liked, probably because pear is my favorite fruit. Hands down. So take this review with that little caveat. The aroma does not bolster my enthusiasm, it smells like cucumbers, a bit of honeydew melon, and pear candies…specifically those pear gummy bears in a bag of Amazing Fruits. Brewed there is still a strong candy and cucumber aroma, but with a sour apple tinge as well.

Ok, steeling my nerves, down the hatches it goes…and it is not terrible. It tastes like pear candy, that is certain, it is not like biting into a fresh pear. Luckily since it tastes like candy that also means it is very sweet, like honey and a bit of melon. The finish is refreshingly cucumber with a touch of fresh leaves. This was not my favorite tea ever, but I am not hating it and have no problem finishing my cup.

I really liked the pear flavour in Secret Garden’s Plum & Cottage Pear.
