A while back, on a trip to re-stock my Genmaicha I was given a sample of this tea at the door and ended up buying a small amount of it as well. I was amazed by how smooth it was and I liked the subtle peach flavour and the sweet notes from the calendula flowers. on a cold winter evening it really made me feel warm and fresh. When I steep it myself it’s usually not as fine as that first impression; while the black ceylon is nice it has a tendency to steal the show if not prepared with full attentiveness.

This tea smells so good! The dry leaf smells of a very fresh peach. I found that this did not translate to the flavour of the tea. The peach flavour was very muted, so much so that I can’t attest to it, all I can say is there is a hint of peach. I found that the Ceylon base was also muted, unlike other reviews of this tea. That might be because of different steeping times and strengths. Silk road has some crazy steeping instructions – for all of their teas, they recommend 1 tsp of tea per 2 cups (16 oz) of water. I don’t think I have ever followed those parameters as I do not like weak tea. You kind of have to guess how much tea to use, so I must not have used enough. Still, this tea did taste good and as it cooled, I could detect the peach notes more with every sip. I look forward to experimenting with this tea a little more.

I like this tea, and I buy it often, but it isn’t as bright and cheerful as I expect peach to be. You really have to add honey to this tea to counteract the bitterness that this brew has even with a regular-strength steeping. I think this may be derived more from the tea leaf base – Ceylon – and the citrus peel than the peach flavouring itself.

Cold Brew!

Very simple and direct flavour of peach on a neutral black tea base. Like, there’s no frills to this tea at all – but as a very sippable cold brew to drink during a day of working it’s inoffensive and approachable while still conveying the taste of peach.

I went to the Silk Road tea store in Victoria and found this gem. I have not yet tried a peach black tea as good as this one, and I have tried multiple since trying this tea.
However, it was extremely pricey and I only received about 25g for 5 dollars.

The aroma dried is not unlike those fuzzy peach candies (love those things!!). Sure it’s a bit sweet and artificial smelling to the nose, but brewed up it’s a much more balanced aroma and flavour. The earthiness of the black Ceylon mixes quite nicely with the fruity peach and citrus flavours. Silk Road has great quality teas and this one is even organic. It’s the second time I’ve purchased it – had no trouble going through my last tin. It has a nice summer feel to it that is a great start to my Saturday here at work. I’ve found 4 minutes is about the right brew time – much longer and some bitterness starts to come through.

Weekend Sipdown #5

This one was utterly delightful today. It’s not been a warm day, for summer, but the juicy, fresh scent and flavour of peach contributed some much-needed sunshine all by itself! Peach teas are usually hit and miss for me, particularly when the peach flavouring is artificial tasting and very strong. No worries here — it’s like drinking peach juice! The slightly citrussy base ceylon is perfect here, creating a fruity, satisfying cup! Very enjoyable.
