From Rishi Tea

Our top grade of organic matcha is made from the first springtime harvest of tencha, savored for its umami sweetness, creamy taste and enlivening energy. Prepare Teahouse Matcha in the traditional, ceremonial manner called Cha No Yu using a tea bowl and a bamboo tea whisk.

The traditional cultivation of tencha requires shading the tea garden for 3-4 weeks prior to harvest. This elevates chlorophyll and enhances L-theanine and other stimulating amino acids responsible for matcha’s unique bounty of energy.

Latte Sipdown (2221)!

This weekend I started reading Legends & Lattes and I’ve had a hard time putting it down since, so this morning I snuck in a couple chapters over a breakfast bagel and a fairly appropriate pairing of matcha whisked up as an oat milk latte – I know the book takes place at a coffee shop, buuuuttt this feels like a pretty acceptable alternative. Surely I get bonus points for the D&D themed mug, which is from the lovely Dryad Tea, and the fact it was also a sipdown. The matcha was delicious though; very fresh, creamy and vegetal with pleasant notes of snow peas!!

PS. I first saw this book shared by Jackie Allen on IG, so thank you for the unintentional introduction!! It’s been the perfect fantasy read for this Dungeons & Dragons nerd!

Everyone once in awhile I will drink a tea or have a matcha that is the unfortunate victim to poor packaging. The grey unassuming bag looks like it would be well suited for the job of protecting this matcha but I fear it failed. The dry aroma is nil. It’s part of matcha that I love, so smelling a staleness, a sort of packaging type of smell was disappointing. Surprisingly the wet aroma immediately filled my nose with vegetal and slight nori notes. Gave me hope. But that was dashed with the flavor. It tastes like the aroma. Not at all what I expected. At some point I’d like to get a sample to see if perhaps it really is the packaging or if the matcha they sourced just isn’t that good.
