I spent 3 days in a row to pick this cake out of 20 plus tea cakes at Kunming Tea Wholesale Market in Oct. 2009. Produced from 2001 up to 2009, many versions were presented. Some of them looked great, but they were off in terms of taste – sour, bitter, while some others tasted great, but the look of them would just turn me off – low grade, not as clean.
This is the good one for the money, looks and taste. Keep it for a few years and find it a treasure.

It had a moderate amount of fermentation flavor left but not too much. There were some complex notes to it including chocolate and sweet notes like plums or dates. I added a small amount of sugar to it which I am sure added to the sweet notes but they were there none the less. Considering the price of only $18 this tea is a great value. I will see how it ages. CNNP makes an excellent puerh and this is no exception.
I brewed this 4 times in a 200ml glass teapot with 7.5g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 10 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, and 20 sec. The tea had many more steepings in it but I have to wake up tomorrow morning.
