From Palais des Thes

A delicious spicy, zesty organic blend of black tea, turmeric, holy basil & lemon.

Indian DETOX is a delicious black tea combining the detox benefits of turmeric and lemon with a healing plant, holy basil. This zesty, spicy blend that will rebalance your body to aid digestion can be enjoyed both hot and iced.

A detox inspired by ancient Indian practices which consider the stomach to be a second brain: the stomach must function properly so that the rest of the body and spirit remains healthy. So our Indian DETOX is based on digestive rebalancing.

This blend is made up of:

black tea from India: the naturally beneficial Assam black tea also has antioxidant properties. Very rich in tannins, it has a positive, relaxing effect on the digestive system, helps calm inflammation, and ease stomach pain.
turmeric: this spice that grows mainly in South Asia (India) has been one of the main spices used in India for more than 5,000 years, for its unique flavor and for its preventive and curative benefits in traditional medicine. Recommended to treat digestive disorders, it has anti-inflammatory properties, improves digestion, relieves constipation and eases bloating.
tulsi herb: also known as “holy basil” or the “queen of herbs”, this Indian plant has been venerated and used for thousands of years as a medicinal plant, especially in the Ayurvedic tradition. It has many curative properties including the ability to ease digestive disorders as well as purifying, detoxifying properties that help the body and mind feel lighter.
lemon: fresh and zesty, this staple of detoxifying treatments promotes comfortable digestion and a feeling of lightness.

This tea is made up of ingredients grown organically and has several organic certifications: AB label, EU certified organic food label, Ecocert organic certification, USDA Organic label.

I drink this tea on mornings when i still feel bloated from yesterday’s food and i need to focus. Not that it helps, because i’m writing this review while i have a paper to write and due date… was yesterday. I don’t dislike this tea but in my opinion it is a bit bland. I much prefer a chai tea than black tea with turmeric.

Second of this “Detox” line up that I’m trying…

Of the collection, I think this is the one that is least exciting to me. I just feel like I’m at a place where I’m like “Ok, I get it… Turmeric is a big wellness ingredient right now, and a popular spice in Indian so makes sense for spiced/chai type stuff. Haven’t we had enough of it though!?” Like, I’m just so over turmeric.

This is fine, I suppose. The turmeric is strong, as is the cardamom and ginger. Cardamom is the saving grace for me in this cup/what kept me from prematurely dumping it. It’s also pretty brisk/full bodied with a STRONG finishing astringency that lingers for a long time after the swallow. I’m not the market for this kind of tea – clearly. However, even just in comparison to turmeric chai type teas I’ve had in the last few months I find that this one is very middle of the road for me…

Shrug.

Palais des Thés Advent Calendar – Day 19

Ughhhh, I am so beyond irritated with the whole mortgage process. We found out today that our house was appraised at a lower value than the purchase price (about $20K lower), which basically means we’re paying $20K more for it than it’s objectively “worth”.

So now we have to pay the difference at closing, and since the mortgage is only for the appraised price, it doesn’t even count as a down payment. So we’ll just be an additional $20K out of pocket beyond what we’d planned for the down payment, and it doesn’t even help our interest rate at all.

Really really frustrating.

Anyway, back on topic. This is the fourth DETOX blend I’ve tried from PDT. I can’t say I’m terribly excited for it, but that’s not its fault – I’m just not a big fan of turmeric in tea.

It’s actually better than I expected. The turmeric is fairly restrained, which is nice change from other turmeric teas I’ve tried. It adds a nice earthy note without being overpowering and making my mouth dry. The black tea is very light for an Assam. I’m not sure I really get lemon, but I do enjoy the herbal flavor of the tulsi here and it really goes well with the turmeric. It’s almost lightly minty in flavor? I don’t have much experience with tulsi, so I’m not sure how it’s meant to taste.

I know! I’m not sure why it should be my fault that the developer is overcharging me, LOL.
