From Palais des Thés

This surprising blend of Bancha tea, toasted rice and puffed corn is very thirst quenching and pairs well with a savory meal. When steeped, it produces a delicious fragrance and a flavor of roasted grains, making it very popular among people who are not used to green tea.

Many thanks to the Good Lady Angrboda for this, my tea of the afternoon (there was no tea of the morning as toddler had me up at 7:30 am for a bowl of cereal and I then convinced him to go back to bed and woke up again at 11:30). Rowan’s fever is gone today but I am super tired and still have ear thing. Sooo no special Orchid Oolong or Golden Fleece for me today pout

This however sounded good to me, which is odd as I didn’t like the one genmaicha I’ve tried (Teavana, but what do they know?). What encouraged me is that it is with Bancha and not Gyokuro and I figured the flavors would meld better than be such a huge contrast between green and toasty. Plus it is from Le Palais Des Thes and I have heard good things about them.

The smell brewing still isn’t my favorite, burnt popcorn and Kashi, but the taste isn’t bad and it’s even better with food. It’s surprisingly buttery! Genmaicha is definitely a unique cultural beverage, but not one that I am ever likely to get into. ::shrug:: Thanks Miss Ang, for giving me a better Genmaicha experience!

I’m glad you enjoyed it! I don’t really care for the stuff myself, and the last time I tried giving some to the boyfriend, he ended up trying SO HARD to diplomatic about it afterwards that I knew not to do it again. :)

Nice day in: little snow outside; enough to be pretty but not enough to be inconvenient. A little productive writing, a slightly cleaner bathroom, beef stew for lunch, sixty-seven loads of laundry (well, maybe only forty-two). I am, however, done whether the housework is or not. Treating myself to a little time to enjoy a selection from my Palais des Thes tasting sampler.

Genmaicha may be one of those teas that are always going to taste like genmaicha; however, this tin was beautifully fresh and fragrant. The green tea is sharp and bright like fresh spinach, and the rice scent makes me want to go stick my nose in a box of Rice Krispies. A light and gentle change of pace from the heavily flavored and spiced stuff I’ve been leaning on all month.

I have yet to try this one in the pack I got for Christmas. Guess I know what I’m trying nexT

I hoard old tea to the point of embarrassment…the concept of “fresh” just makes my taste buds tap dance!

Sipdown (1460)!

I mean there’s not much to say for this one – it’s a pretty normal and average tasting Genmaicha. I had it as a late in the workday cuppa a few days ago, and it was just an overall pleasantly light and comforting tea, but nothing fancy or bad. Thanks for sharing though VariaTEA!

Entering Round 3 of March Sipdown Madness – this tea is facing off against What the Fluff? by 52 Teas. I think I have an idea which tea is not only going to win this battle but which tea will win the whole tournament. Still, I will work through the blends and enjoy my teas.

I don’t have a lot new to say about this one – it’s consistently very roasty without much flavour from the green tea base. As I mentioned several times, that’s my preference but I know others enjoy green tea and would want that more present in their tea. That said, this is one consistently good tea against another and at the end of the day, even though I do enjoy genmaichas, I prefer marshmallow.

Palais des Thés Advent Calendar – Day 16 (from November backlog)

Another unflavored tea from Palais des Thés… But I do like genmaicha!

This one is pleasant enough, with a sweet and toasty rice flavor and slight creaminess. The base tea is mellow and grassy, with a bit of dried autumn leaf in there as well. No hint of bitterness or sharpness here.

Genmaicha is always so comforting to sip on when relaxing in the evening… ❤

You’re so right! I had three steeps of the genmaicha last night. :) Tonight I’m sipping on Lhotse Black to focus.

Genmaicha and hojicha are just such cozy teas! :3

I’m sick. :(
I had two different sicks in a row. Last weekend I had a sore throat. That got better and now I’m all sniffly.
Had this classic comfort tea yesterday. I forgot how tasty genmaicha is. Sometimes you forsake your old favorites for shiny new things.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks! Getting pampered by hubby now. I guess there are benefits. :)

A classic Genmaicha tea, with a crisper note of rice than many other brands. The perfect tea if you enjoy this particular Japanese style of tea. I love it with sushi and its pretty tasty iced too.
