From Numi Organic Tea

In the Moroccan spring, the snow melts off the Atlas Mountains, watering the plains below. As the days warm, some of the most soothing, refreshing and full-flavored mint flourishes in this ancient land of the Berbers. With a flavor as light and lively as a newly picked leaf, our choice organic mint will become your favorite mint teasan. An all-day or after-dinner delight, no wonder the Moroccans drink ten cups a day.

Just wanting a nice mellow evening time cup right now, and have this bag along with me, so now is its time in the spotlight. Although the packaging says it’s 100% mint, the smell on opening the pouch isn’t as fresh and minty as other pure mint bags I’ve tried, or even mint/green blends. It does steep to the typical medium-dark green/brown mint tisane color.

The aroma of the cup once steeped is subdued too, and though the mint is there, I’m also getting an element which is more generically “herbal” that I’m also not used to in typical mint teas. The taste is okay – not as cool mint as I prefer, though there is some natural sweetness lurking around which is pleasant. I’m continuing to taste a medicinal herb note which is not so much to my liking.

Wow, not having much luck with bagged teas this week! I’m looking forward to getting back to my normal stash tomorrow.

I’m wondering if this is more of a spearmint rather than a peppermint. (Looking at the packaging it just says mint) It’s a darker taste than I expected. I think I prefer the brighter, lighter taste of peppermint. This is a nice tea, and it’s helping me get through an evening of massive overtime, but I’d rather drink a cup of Celestial Seasonings Peppermint.

But, as far as mints go, it’s pretty decent.

I googled Moroccan mint because I too noticed the difference, and it seems pretty much a consensus on the web that the mint used is spearmint. I prefer peppermint as well, but the spearmint is kind of nice for a change of pace.

Another one-note tea from Numi. The clear mint taste reminds me of a wintergreen/spearmint/pepperming mélange. It’s an excellent tea for quite evening work.

I believe strongly that a local restaurant serves this precise tea as their special “Comfot Tea” and it indeed is a consoling, friendly, and generous drink.

Had a cup this morning to settle my stomach, and it worked like a charm. Plus it was quite tasty. I agree that this seems more like spearmint than peppermint, which I happen to like. It’s minty but mild, very calming and comforting.

So I grabbed this one out of the sampler in an attempt to settle an upset stomach. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a big mint tea freak. I sweetened this one with honey, and found it tolerable, but not spectacular. It did help me to feel a little better though, so I’ll give it that. Thanks, Numi.

This smells just like Spearmint Gum! It’s an average brown tea color. If you like Mint – you will like this one! Thumbs Up…plain and simple.
