Georgia has a fascinating history – it was the Land of Colchis, where Jason went with his Argonauts to seek the Golden Fleece – in classical times people panned for gold by holding a sheep’s fleece in the river to pick up small flakes of gold. Also Georgia was a crossroad between the continents of Europe and Asia and a key resting point on the ancient “Silk Road” stretching from China to Venice. Tea was carried for the long journey (or caravan) along this trading route on the backs of camels and mules. It picked up a distinctive smoky aroma from resting by the many camp fires during the journey. Our ‘Georgian Caravan’ combines modern hand made Georgian village tea with a hint of the smoky China tea that those camels would have carried long ago.
