When I was at Nina’s Paris, I was given teas to smell and asked what I thought they were before I was told the ingredients. By scent, this was instantly recognizable as a Christmas tea. However, unlike many other Christmas teas, this has apple as opposed to orange and flowers instead of spices.
Steeped, the smell is all cinnamon but tastewise the cinnamon mellows. There is a subtle apple cinnamon flavor. I am not picking up any florals but since I am not a huge floral fan, I am happy about that. This is not bad but I definitely prefer the other Nina’s Paris teas I have tried.

The leaves are dark brown and uniformly cut, and contain pieces of apple and rose. While I waited for the tea to cool down, I took delight in the aroma – apple and cinnamon, with hint of vanilla – which smelled like apple pie with a generous amount of cinnamon. Since the liquor is dark, yet clear, I expected the base tea (black) to quite strong. Instead, I tasted a wonderful balance between the base and the other ingredients. Again, apple pie, but with a slight presence of brisk black tea. The flavor is medium-bodied and smooth.
This tea is delicious! I’m very glad I chose it as one of my samples. Recommended to be drunk with dessert (for the apple cinnamon) or with breakfast (for the base).

Home with the flu or a nasty cold today and I wanted something, something, something—-not quite sure, but the exact right something. And I wasn’t open to my flu teas which tend to be lemongrass and ginger medicinal types.
This long neglected sample from VariaTEA is exactly the right something for this moment. Apple softened with vanilla with a healthy dash of cinnamon. Despite my nasal congestion and sore throat and diminished tastebuds, I still get that this is a Christmas tea—it’s got that Christmas tea je ne sais quoi pas.

Having this one this morning (afternoon?) to convince myself that no, I really don’t need that $12 tin of Christmas Tea from Kusmi that’s on Vente-Privee right now… Especially since I’ve never tried it before, so who knows if I’ll even like it… Ahem. Anyway! This lovely sample came from Marzipan, thanks again! Now, I know sprinkles in tea blends are often frowned upon, but I can’t help but find these tiny white snowflakes anything less than completely charming. Some things are just cute, okay?! Anyway, this tea has that familiar holiday fruit and spice combination.
The steeped tea smells lovely, like the canned cinnamon apple slices my grandma makes. Yum, I quite like this one! The flavor is sweet and somewhat light, and the cinnamon is in perfect harmony with the apple instead of overpowering it. I find I’m not tasting a lot of vanilla, but I’m not terribly upset by it (which is saying a lot, I love vanilla). I will definitely have to pick up some of this gem if I ever get around to a Nina’s order. Thanks Marz! :D

Sad to say, but this one is not a favourite. I was concerned about the rose petals in the blend, though thankfully they were not too strong….though they did border on making this blend too floral for me, as I have very little tolerance for floral teas, especially rose. Because of this, I was not able to pick up on the other flavours much…I’m just so super sensitive to florals. I was hoping this one was mild enough, and while mild, not mild enough for me.
It is a highly lovely tea to look at though, and I’m grateful for the chance to try it, so thanks VariaTEA for sending it. I’m not sure if I will make the last serving or set it aside for a swap.
thanks VariaTEA for sharing this one with me. Turns out, i prefer christmas teas from MF. There’s something about the spices in this one that has me wanting other christmas teas instead. Maybe it’s the way the vanilla is blending with them, or the sprinkles… lol that being said, I will be picking up more of this next winter to try and see if it’s just due to the fact that we’re coming out of the cold weather and my taste buds are looking for more spring/summer like teas. I have the same issue with chais as well heh they’re my fall/winter beverage!
