Smooth, slightly bitter, with a vaguely grapey taste and a mild ‘aged’ feel. It’s not that amazing, but it’s a very nice shou for daily drinking, and complex enough to work well if you’re in the mood to analyse a tea as well. Very full-bodied.

It’s flooding today in Houston, so I am working from home and brewing up some tea from the Beginner’s Puerh box. This one is creamy with hints of vanilla. Definitely earthy, but that’s what makes it tasty! Not the best ripe I’ve ever had, but certainly one to keep in mind.

This tea is good but not for the feint of heart. This tea was a sort of ripe that had clearly been heavily fermented. The fermentation taste was evident into the sixth steep and you could still taste it in the eighth steep. I was too busy noticing the fermentation in this one to really notice other notes. Not really sure if I would say this one had notes of chocolate in there. It was enjoyable, just heavily fermented. It did have a sweet taste in there. There were really no bitter notes that I noticed. Also wouldn’t have noticed them past the fermentation.

I steeped this tea ten times in a 120ml gaiwan with 10.2g leaves and boiling water. I gave them a 10 second rinse. I steeped them for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 min. This one is still available on the us site but is sold out on the China site.
