From Matcha Outlet

The well loved banana is grown in many types found in most tropical climates. The banana fruit is vanilla colored and in its powder forms gives it the sweet enriching taste that bananas are well respected for. Adding Matcha to banana powder can give it an interesting twist and a flavor that is sweet light and out of this world.

Company formerly known as Red Leaf Tea.

The next thing turned out to be matcha. Also good for keeping me awake, or so I’ve come to realise. I picked out banana simply because it appealed to me the most, but it was a close-run thing between strawberry and cheesecake. I used 1/4 tsp for my cup, whisked into boiling water and topped off with hot milk as a latte. I think this is basically going to be my go-to method of matcha preparation, because there aren’t many other ways I can stomach it. I still find it a bit odd, because generally speaking hot milk isn’t my thing either. Still, what works works.

I’m pretty impressed with the flavour here. It’s candy banana rather than fresh, but that’s rather appealing in its own way. It reminds me of those foamy sweets I had as a child. The added bonus for me is that it covers up most of the green tea flavour, except a very little bit which actually works with the banana flavouring rather than against it. That slight “greenness” is a bit reminiscent of under-ripe banana, and that’s okay with me. It didn’t turn my stomach even at this early hour. This one’s a win with me.

Candy banana! Yum! are the foamy things a candy called Circus Peanuts? And why are they peanut shaped when they are clearly banana flavored? My mom loved them, and when she was sick (cancer) the last few years of her life, I would pick up a bag for her whenever they had them by the register in stores. They are not always easy to find!

As far as I can remember the ones I had were banana shaped, but then I live in the UK so maybe it’s different. I do remember raspberry/strawberry foam sweets shaped like shrimps, though!

The last of this one for my morning wake up cold milk latte. This natural banana flavored but not quite actual banana in flavor. More candy like. I like it but don’t love it. Maybe I just used too much? It’s another that others rated higher than my opinion.

This leaves only pumpkin pie matcha to finish up my flavored matcha. That may wait. I can’t believe I am going to write this but, you can only have so much pumpkin pie in a one week span and I am already teetering over the line. I must be getting old.

This matcha was really good, sweet but not to sweet and tasted of artificial banana, which i’m not complaining about. I drink my matcha iced and with a splash of milk so it made me think of a banana milkshake.

Banana! Nana nana. Bananaaaaaaaaaaaa!
After making a smoothie with this stuff I just could not resist watching the mini movie from Despicable Me http://youtu.be/XyycKC9rTYM
It brightens my day every time I watch it. So cute!!
Anyhow, I really enjoyed this in my smoothie. Avocado, blueberries, almond milk, an ice. Mucho yum!! Like the banana icecream I had as a kid. Not quite as tart as the candies. Also reminds me a bit of medicine only there is no hint of bitterness and I can’t comment on whether the matcha itself is creamy – next time…
So glad I finally opened it. I still have grape left to unleash in my cupboard. (promised myself I would sipdown a matcha first but I caved!)
I love banana flavoured things so I went with the robust level, but I think it would have been good either way as the flavour is very potent. Next time I think I’ll add some chocolate matcha or cocoa… oh man that would be ahhhhmazing. Yum.

Made a matcha latte this morning. I made this with plain almond milk vs. the Silk soymilk I usually drink. The silk tastes a lot better, more creamy, but we are talking a difference of 30 calories vs. 100. I’m worried I’m getting fat while I sit around my apt. waiting for my arm to get better. This is a good lower calorie option.

Note to self: next order with Red Leaf Tea should include an almond matcha.

I haven’t tried Almond milk. Does it have enough creaminess? I use the light almond soy, 70 cal. I use half soy milk and half water with a couple ice cubes when I do matcha. Matcha is sooo good. It has become one of mr favorites.

carol who

Oops! many typos because of my broken finger… make that I use " light vanilla soy" and make “mr favorites” to “my favorites”. At least 3 more weeks with the splint. :(

TeaBrat

Hi Carol, I feel that the almond milk is thin and lacks creaminess. It reminds me of skim milk in that regard. I should try to find the unsweetened soymilk, might be fewer cals.

TeaBrat

Hey I’ll trade places with you, broke my shoulder :)

carol who

Broke your shoulder! :( Oh, that sound so painful. I hope it heals quickly!

CharlotteZero

How is it healing, anyway? Is the end in sight yet?

TeaBrat

The fracture is healed but my arm is extremely stiff and sore from being in a sling for 6 weeks so now I have to work on rehab. At least the worst is over but it will take a while.

CharlotteZero

Aw. Yeah. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer until it feels better… :-)

CHAroma

I have heard that the almond matcha is amazing!
