From Mariage Frères

MF No. T4302
Black tea, Nepal.

Organic tea estate

Mariage Frères unveils the newest opus in its haute couture collection, inviting you to discover this emblematic Grand Cru originating from a unique terroir veiled in the fresh, mountain air and imbued with the crystalline waters of the Nepal foothills. A perfect union of Mariage Frères rigorous standards blended with the talents of the planters.

Leaves: a selection of only the youngest, finest leaves, delicately twisted by hand then oxydised – mimicking a Formosa blue tea – though conserving its elegant duvet of silvertips and releasing a light aroma of rosebud and longan.

Nose: velvety fig plays with the sweetness of Bengal quince, marrying perfectly with the light notes of vanilla and cooked caramel.

Liquor: a deep, warm amber in which smooth, fragrant notes coalesce, possessing an ample body slightly accentuated by notes of honey and malt.

Magnificent and rare tea from the Himalayas.

How to prepare this black tea:

Measure out 3.5 g of tea for 20 cl of pure, filtered water

Bring the water to a simmer (about 95° C) and let the tea infuse for 5 minutes

Enjoy!

The MF description is “over the top” and makes this sound like one of the best teas ever. This is good, but it is much more like a green tea than I expected. It has a lot of depth and many good features, though, and it is a tea I will enjoy many more times.
