Our loose-leaf Modern Chai No. 2 has its roots in the magical union of chocolate and saffron. Both precious commodities have rich histories of inspiring love, art, and debauchery, among other pursuits. Saffron even receives a rather lusty and poetic mention in the Song of Solomon:
“Your lips drop sweetness like honeycomb, my bride, syrup and milk are under your tongue, and your dress had the scent of Lebanon. Your cheeks are an orchard of pomegranates, an orchard full of rare fruits, spikenard and saffron, sweet cane and cinnamon. ”
Organic, fairly-traded assam tea from India forms the base of our second house blend (contains caffeine!), while organic cardamom, organic ginger and organic ceylon cinnamon lend their classic chai spiciness. Exotic saffron and organic, fairly-traded cacao give this blend its rich and mysterious character. Slowing down enough to brew up a cup of this loose leaf chai will soothe and renew the spirit.
To brew a gorgeous cup of chai: simmer 1/2 cup water & 1/2 cup of your favorite milk, add 2 tbsp. chai (feel free to add more or less, according to your preferences), simmer for 5 minutes. Strain, sweeten & enjoy. This chai, as well as Modern Chai No. 1 are also delicious over ice on warm days.
