From Mandala Tea

We are so happy to offer this Mandala Tea exclusive ripe-style pu’er tea to our fine customers everywhere!

This blend of ripe pu’er leaves come from spring-picked old plantation trees that are between 60 and 80 years old. Grown without pesticides or sprays, this is just pure, clean tea from one of the most pristine growing areas in southwest China.

We carefully selected 4 sizes of expertly-crafted ripened leaf from this plantation and blended them to make a very well-balanced tea. The majority of the blend (around 70%) are smaller leaves which will give up more flavor in earlier infusions with the remaining 30% coming into play in later infusions.

The result is an incredibly well-balanced tea. Rich and creamy in flavor and aroma without overbearing earthiness, this tea hits the mark and is now one of our most favorite ripe teas. And judging by our customer response, others think so too!

We are impressed with the clarity of the tea liquor produced from this leaf as normally, ripe leaf this young makes for a cloudier brew.

Brew it up short and sweet or loud and proud, this tea will not disappoint. In fact, it will tickle all your ripe tea drinking fancies!

This is the first tea I tried from my recent first Mandala order, and while I don’t feel like writing an in depth note tonight, this is an AMAZING shu!! Probably the best I’ve had so far. Its light, silky smooth, and zero fishiness! I get mostly a light woody flavor, a touch of wild mushrooms, and definitely a creamy mouthfeel. Still has some sweetness to it though. A wonderful tea to have on a cool, rainy night. I am loving this and feel wonderfully relaxed, even with there being caffeine in this! I’ve only had 2 steeps but it is so good. Parameters: ~15s rinse with boiling water, first steep 20s, second steep 30s, probably a 10-12oz cup, I could even do smaller cups in the future.

Overall, I am digging this. Very pleased with Mandala so far, I have special dark and the lincang to try now as well as 2 samples! A great way to wind down along with a good book :) rating may increase after drinking more of this tea as well.

Love this one too!

Me too – I usually say that this is my favorite pu’erh, but Special Dark seems to be fighting for it’s share of attention… Hope you continue to enjoy your Mandala order. :))

Hi Garret – my pleasure to write a review on this lovely tea! I’m trying the lincang now, also very good! Trying to decipher what flavors I’m tasting before I write a note though haha. So happy I’m finally trying your teas! Expect more orders from me in the future :D

A sample of old from Kawaii433!  Thank you!  I have had this puerh before but didn’t write a note for Kawaii’s sample.  I was steeping up some half mugs with the little bit of leaf I had remaining and now I will miss it!  It’s a type of puerh I like, biscuity, starchy, dark, sweet.  Much like my note for my previous sample – eight years ago!    It’s a really good puerh though, it reminds me of my favorite from Teavivre. I wouldn’t mind having more of this one around. I also finished Mandala’s Milky Oolong from Kawaii433!  It was a very good tea day.  Thanks again!!

Sipping right now. I used the same parameters that I did for Bu Lang Gong Ting two days ago. Boiling water, 2tsp/10oz, 15sec rinse. Steep times were 35sec, 40sec, and 1min 25.

This tea is very earthy but also very light. I’m getting mild notes of cream, bread, nuts, and chocolate. They all seem to be hovering in the background, coming forward and receding as soon as I notice them. The mushroom, earthy flavors and nuttiness are the things I notice most. I swear I noticed something spicy or peppery in the second steep. As soon as I placed a name to it it disappeared. Agh, did I imagine it?! There’s a sweetness and warm bread-like flavor that sticks around after sipping. Third steep was more woodsy with a drying finish.

I think this tea will age very well. I need to find a different way to store it…I’ve just kept it in the ziplock-seal package it came in. I’ll try a five-minute steep tomorrow and see how I like it!

I’m so happy you are grooving on this. It’s been my first tea of the day for over 2 years now. Not kidding. I bought all the loose leaf and blended it, shipped enough to the pressing factory to have 400 (250g) cakes pressed and shipped many crates of it back here to myself.

The cakes of this are really opening up now – 1 yr 8 months since their pressing.

I love your review of this tea. Thank you for taking the time to get down on the keyboard. Let me know if you recall the lost name :) I’d love to know!

I get pepper notes in shou sometimes as well.

This tea has that smell that makes me cautious around puerh so I did a 30 second “rinse” before doing a 30 second steep. I’ve gotten three big mugs out of it so far and all of them have lots of flavour. I can see this one going strong for a while.

Right now everything about this tea reminds me of cream of mushroom. I’m honestly not a fan of that, but I’m curious to see where this tea goes in later steeps.

EDIT: I don’t mind the 4th steep, which still has the mushroom but with a lot more cream, and the additional dash of sugar with something nutty.

Maybe if you do it western style you can skip the first few infusions? Or if would be balanced between mushroom and cream? I wonder if it works like that…

Crowkettle

I made some up western style like you suggested and it did work out better for me (less mushroom!), although my “rinse” may have been too intense and killed some of the cream too. It’s still a work in progress.
