From Mandala Tea

Power-packed and oh, so very delicious!.

Imagine our excitement upon acquiring a 2019 small batch ripened gong ting! Upon tasting the sample sent to us by one of our suppliers in China, we jumped on buying it. The leaves were harvested in 2018 and turned into ripe tea in 2019.

Drinkers will enjoy a smooth and thick tea liquor. Classic Bulang mountain dark chocolate notes balanced with a sweet and syrupy mouthfeel and plenty of minerals that hold the flavor fast to the tongue. Hints of herbs and distant black pepper, creaminess and the occasional waft of a birch-fueled campfire in the distance.

Gong ting is the smallest leaf grade used in pu’er tea making so expect a strong and vital cup. Remember that due to its small size, it is capable of almost instant potency and energy. We recommend trying it with shorter multiple steepings at first so that you can enjoy the many subtle notes as they are coaxed from the leaf. Conversely, if you like your brew strong and bold, go for it. This leaf will give you quite a treat with full, rich flavor and a pep to your step!

This is truly a rare find. We sampled over 15 gong tings as we planned for a few new 2021 pressings and this one was a cut well above the others. This is the same material we used to create our If I Had the World to Give ripe cake! If you wish to taste this gong ting blended with some slightly larger leaves, you simply must be sure to try out Scarlet > Fire ripe cake and mini tuocha, as well. Stunning.
